Telebastard Update- sort of...

It's turned into a LO0O0O0O0NG Time since I first posted here about my Tele build project, dubbed the Fiender Telebastard. Most of the way through the necessary parts and tools purchases, I unexpectedly found myself out of a job, followed by additional financial surprises- going abruptly from being able to spend like that proverbial Sailor, to having to put that guitar-build on hold. That hold-time in turn grew longer and longer... Now- further updating you all with the following being like ripping off a Band-Aid for me- AND I REQUEST THAT IT ABSOLUTELY NOT BE A TOPIC OF ANY DISCUSSION HERE ..read more

My Boogered Melody Maker

A few years ago I bought a Gibson Melody Maker on craigslist for $400. It needed new frets, it had a gold plexiglass pick guard and truss rod cover that were 1//8" thick and had 90 degree edges. There were three DiMarzio Strat pickups and a 5 way switch that went all the way through the body (another gold plexiglass non-tapered blob thingie was screwed into the backside to cover the hole. It was probably a 1961, the last year for the original single cutaway Melody Maker body, the 1962 models were double cutaway.  I'm guessing 1961 because it was originally a double pickup model. The Gibso ..read more

Greetings, everyone.   Sorry I haven't checked in lately, but my computer is seriously screwed up, to the point where I couldn't even stand to use it, or try to. If there's a ghost in the machine, it's a poltergeist, and the poor bastard is dangerously insane.   I'll spare you all the interesting things that it does, but if it were a car, you wouldn't let your worst enemy drive it, for fear that there would other, innocent people on the road with them, and it.   We have a handful of recent and older Macs, in varying states of disuse or disrepair, so I'm trying to Frankenstrat so ..read more

I picked up the Gold Tone mahogany model at Victor Litz in Gaithersberg MD today, and they have three more as it's more cost-effective for them to order four at once. Strongly recommended; I was going to save up for a $2000+ boutique model in koa but I actually prefer the sound and feel of this model. Gold Tone is well known for providing bang for buck at every price point in their catalogue, and I have found Victor Litz to be one of the best music stores in North America, consistently working hard for the customer and carrying stuff that is hard to find anywhere, online or otherwise. Demonic, possessed guitar

A few years ago, I bought 5-6 guitars from a pawn shop, all needed repairs so they went cheap. I paid $25 for an Epiphone Goth 12 Explorer. All the rest of the guitars are long since fixed and sold - "making the world a better place, one guitar at a time."   I let the Epi sit around for a long time, I did take all the parts off, put them in a bag and labelled it. Recently, I decided it was time to fix it up and flip it. This escalated, every step required more attention than it deserved. There was an aftermarket Floyd Rose installaion, the routing was done well but the "Floyd" had a short ..read more

We've had fun busking this past year, but I miss the band. Anna(half sister)will replace our missing guitarist. Drummer and Bass player already know our stuff because they've been helping us all year. We'll be limited because there're places Anna won't be able to play. We could rent some places and put on our own show, maybe our high school or the Filipino Center. It will be nice to be back ..read more

Hello everyone. I'm new to music player and just wanted to let everyone know that I recently published a blog on music theory as it relates to guitar playing (appropriately called "music theory and the guitar"), and thought some of you might find it useful.   The goal of the blog is to provide a frame of reference that will allow students to see the big picture of music so that they can more easily understand where the individual pieces fit. If anyone is interested, it can be accessed at https://blitzstarguitar.com/blog/. Please let me know if you find it helpful.   Thanks. Fr ..read more
