Unchallenge: More Than Pushups
SIXFEET

In December of 2023, I had a familiar pull. About every 6 months, I want to refine what I’m doing. And, for some reason, that makes me want to get a little group together to do the same. I think it has something to do with the ‘mana’ of group settings. Or, that’s the way The Rock phrases it. Hosting the #unchallenge allowed me to dive into that ethereal substance; that magic that is produced by small groups. I wanted to host a group to help work on some things that I would have been working on anyway. Fitness, personal development, core values. Searching – actively questing for the extra. Automatic Thoughts
SIXFEET

Sometimes, in the middle of the day, I will have this sporadic ping pong ball of an idea pop into my brain. It’s not helpful at all, and in some ways, these ideas can be responsible for setting me back. Sometimes, it just sounds like ‘it doesn’t matter.’ Other times, it’s more pervasive. These ‘automatic thoughts’ can sometimes lead to piss poor feelings about our body image, social circles, obstacles in our jobs or any other assortment of easy targets. I think ‘automatic thoughts’ are one of those things that most people might not know a lot about. Like most personal development tools, knowin ..read more

Core Values: How to operationalize yourself.
SIXFEET
by Bill Dungey

Earlier in 2023, I read a book called Day One Leadership by a guy named Drew Dudley. I pulled two major ideas from this book. One – that a great way to really improve the conversations I have that wouldn’t otherwise have great depth lies in the types of questions I ask. The other, an exercise that shaped the last bit of the year and maybe, the rest of my life. No joke. That impactful. Too often, we hear the words ‘mission, vision and values’ in conjunction with our organizations. So often and so plagued by LinkedIn language that, I’d argue, they start to lose meaning. Or, that’s been my experi ..read more

To know more about the philosophy behind this challenge, see this post; “You don’t need another discipline challenge.” by Bill Dungey The SIXFEET #unchallenge will take place over the month of January 2024. There is no list of objectives. There is no award for completing anything. In most challenges, certain vectors are set as a standard for participants to achieve.  In the #unchallenge, we’ll look at the system that makes up your operational readiness as a process instead of slicing up chunks of your lifestyle to hopefully create a new motivator out of the positive results from the work ..read more

You don’t need another discipline challenge.
SIXFEET

I caught myself doing it again. Using search terms like ‘challenge like 75-hard’ or ‘pullup challenge’. I sit here in track pants and a new tee that Santa brought me, riding the last few bumps of a good COVID infection. Nothing major, but enough to sit my butt down for some recovery. I started to pull apart some of my ambitions for 2024 by way of looking for something to kick-start the year. That’s when I figured it out; I don’t need another discipline challenge. I need to be disciplined. That statement is pretty punk rock. In fact, I think the act of pursuing progress is pretty punk rock. Let ..read more
