SMO has released a new music video! The new music video, for the track Crooked Teeth, follows the project’s debut single Real People which was released in November last year and once again blends elements of punk, metal and industrial for a raw and energetic vibe. Speaking about the track, SMO (aka Sammy Urwin of EMPLOYED TO SERVE) comments, “Crooked Teeth is a song of empowerment to those who don’t feel fully comfortable in their own skin. In the age of “baddiecore” and the press shifting focus on to bands that have the “right look”, I wanted to remind people that alternat ..read more

ALBUM REVIEW: The Demon Who Makes Trophies Of Men – The Monolith Deathcult
Distorted Sound Magazine » Industrial Metal
by Danny Sanderson

THE MONOLITH DEATHCULT may just be not only one of the most bizarrely overlooked death metal acts to form since the turn of the century, but also one of the genre’s most pioneering. Ever since the band began to shift away from their brutal death metal roots in favour of a sound that blended together their prior extremity with symphonic and electronic elements, their bombastic and strident sound has helped them produce stunning albums that genuinely don’t sound like any other band within extreme metal, with some being modern classics in the genre. The band’s latest, ninth album, The Demon Who M ..read more

ALBUM REVIEW: Degeneration – Wristmeetrazor
Distorted Sound Magazine » Industrial Metal
by Ellis Heasley

Far be it from anyone to accuse WRISTMEETRAZOR of not taking their work seriously. The US metalcore outfit recorded their third album Degeneration in near total seclusion in the woods of New Jersey, apparently allowing themselves only three breaks over 30 days of 12-hour studio sessions. It may all sound a bit much – and perhaps more than you’d think is needed to produce a killer metalcore record given all the stories of legendary albums that were knocked out in a couple of days or so – but ultimately whatever you make of their methods (or indeed their name) matters a lot less when presented w ..read more

If you’re looking for a new metalcore fix this week, then look no further than the new album Hollywood Suicide by German outfit GHØSTKID. With the follow-up to their 2020 self-titled debut album, they’re back and this time they mean business.  From the get go, Hollywood Suicide cranks everything up to eleven as it delivers an all out assault on the senses. First up is the title track which sets the standard for what is to come throughout the rest of the record. Starting with some electro beats that wouldn’t feel amiss in some sort of Cyberpunk setting, the listener is thrown into the fray ..read more

PAIN have announced a new album! Titled I Am, the upcoming album from the synth/industrial-laden metal project helmed by HYPOCRISY‘s Peter Tägtgren is the long-awaited follow-up to 2016’s Coming Home, and is scheduled to be released in May this year, via Nuclear Blast Records. Speaking about the upcoming album, Tägtgren says, “the previous record Coming Home came out in 2016 – and of course there was a tour after that. In 2019, I released an album called F & M with RAMMSTEIN singer Till Lindemann, a project I left in 2020. In 2021, it was t ..read more

ALBUM REVIEW: Putrid | Obsolete – Prisoner
Distorted Sound Magazine » Industrial Metal
by Tom Lewis

Formed in Richmond, Virginia in 2012, PRISONER first made their mark with their 2017 debut album Beyond The Infinite, which attracted acclaim thanks to its crushing blend of metallic hardcore and industrial noise. Seven years later and the band are finally ready to release the follow-up Putrid | Obsolete and take that infernal combination of extreme metal and noise to the next level.  Track one Flesh Dirge begins with stabs of distorted industrial rhythm as human (and some possibly inhuman) cries and howls echo in the background, detuned guitars occasionally accompanying the chaos. SKYND have released a new music video! The new music video, for the track Heaven’s Gate, is the brand new single from the industrial-tinged true crime-inspired duo and follows on from their previous single, Bianca Devins, which was released in October last year. Speaking about the new single, SKYND says, “what personality and psychological factors are at play in people who readily submit their lives and wills to cult leaders such as Jim Jones and Marshall Applewhite? How can they not see these people are barking mad? The madness of the cult leader is usually not appare ..read more

HEAVY MUSIC HISTORY: The Downward Spiral – Nine Inch Nails
Distorted Sound Magazine » Industrial Metal

Concept albums are generally dark affairs. 1982’s The Wall by PINK FLOYD talks about the descent into madness of a rockstar burdened by his past. GREEN DAY‘s magnum opus American Idiot (2004) discusses the disillusionment and dissent of a generation navigating young adult life in a post 9/11 world. Even Tommy (1969), which saw THE WHO talk about the great, arcade pastime of pinball, is enveloped in a world of coercion, psychosis and abusive relationships. But perhaps no record has ever gone to the depths that one Michael ‘Trent’ Reznor took his indu ..read more

ALBUM REVIEW: HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES – Ministry

by Jack McGill

Standing for over 40 years, MINISTRY have built a legacy that is filled with weird and wild stamps. Behind that is Al Jourgensen, the final original member of the band still active within, 65 years old still giving it whatever he’s got. Fifteen studio albums in and it doesn’t look like he plans on slowing down anytime soon; instead it seems he’s one of the few of his generation willing to indulge in the ever changing musical landscape and keep on observing. HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES is the band’s sixteenth record, aiming its sights at incels, social media and the right wing alike. HOPIUMFORTHEMA ..read more

ALBUM REVIEW: Orchards Of A Futile Heaven – The Body & Dis Fig
Distorted Sound Magazine » Industrial Metal
by Laura McCarthy
2M ago
In an endeavour to make heavy music without the focus being on guitars or even on pure electronics, THE BODY & DIS FIG collaborate to deliver Orchards Of A Futile Heaven. Lee Bulford and Chip King make up THE BODY, while Felicia Chen is DIS FIG, and together this combination of inquisitive, experimental minds plays with expectation and genre convention to create something that resembles nothing else. Undoubtedly there’s a hardness to the music, and initially you might believe your speakers are broken as Eternal Hours’ thick static dissipates into blood-chilling screams. It’s quite an opene ..read more
