Trial run impressions
Mud Masters

It was a dreary, humid morning, with a threat of rain, but we went ahead with plans to test and race. I got there early, and set up the track, and pit. It was pretty awesome if I do say to myself, despite the field being a little muddy in spots(which is fun for the most part). After a couple of hours, I was ready for the race testers to do their thing. All ready to go, at location one (oh yes, this gets interesting).I mean, hell yeah, right? This is where things sort of fell apart. Several of the people that were planning to be there cancelled. While I was waiting on people to arrive, I see a ..read more

Trial run – Sunday August 29!
Mud Masters

Sunday, August 29th, we will be setting up and having a trial run of the track and doing some lottery ball matchup rounds. This has been over a year in the making/planning, absorbing some knowledge, studying what others have done and are doing, and trying to get the ball rolling, and the feet off of the ground. I’m pretty stoked! I’ve posted in a few areas, dropped off flyers at the LHS, and hope at least a few people aside from our normal crew will come out and give it a try. This is just a start, and it’s not the official series just yet. That will come next. I spent a day sweating in the ho ..read more

YATU(Yet Another Track Update)
Mud Masters

After some more testing, tweaking, and add in some minor frustrations, I have gotten another reworking of the track layout finished. Several significant changes have taken place, and this is all to get things worked out before I start the official series later this Summer. Primarily it’s become patently obvious that I need to increase the width of the speed trap ramp to double it’s width. It’s simply painful to try and squeeze a 1/8-1/10 MT into that little 24 inch space. I had been thinking about this a while, so I’ve got a plan in place. Essentially I will make two more ramps, attach the ref ..read more

Track update – and upcoming plans
Mud Masters

Some plans have changed slightly, as I unexpectedly found myself involved in another RC racing project/event. Due to this, I had to put the Mud Masters series on a backburner, and it also gave me time to re-evaluate, and re-plan a few things. I do not yet have a timeline, but I would like to move this closer to an actual event, as I have finalized my track layout(with a few minor changes). My hope is to start with a small, locally advertised event that can be held some time in June, and expand from there. This would be a one day affair, perhaps something running from 10 am to 2 pm. The track l ..read more

At the present time the major track components are near completion. This includes the starting ramp podium, the finish line speed trap, and the jumps. I’m still working on building the four crushed car barriers for turn points. The starting podium was quite a chore, but it’s come out really well! I detailed it’s construction at RC Insanity last week – https://rcinsanitydot.wordpress.com/2020/07/17/portable-monster-jam-race-course/ Starting line podium. This past weekend I completed the finish line speed trap, which was a bit more difficult and involved. I think it came out pretty good too, and ..read more

Introducing Mud Masters!
Mud Masters

I’ve been into monster truck and racing for as long as I can remember, but in 2008 everything changed when I bought my first nitro powered truck, the T-Maxx 2.5! Before the truck even saw a speck of dirt, I had nearly replaced every stock part on it, built a custom body, and joined a local RC club. The track was awesome, and there were plenty of nitro trucks buzzing all over the place every day. Unfortunately things never stay the same…the track was forced to close because of shameless politicians, I moved to a new location, and the T-Maxx Era came to slowly fade away. Nitro monster trucks gav ..read more
