Do I need to use a p trap adapter?

Hi I was recently struggling to remove an old rusted p trap adapter on my old drain because it was the wrong size. I have since removed the old p trap adapter fitting so now it's an 1 1/2 drain coming from the wall. Can I just connect my 1 1/2 p trap coming from the sink straight to the 1 1/2 drain in the wall with slip joint nuts and washers ..read more

Bathroom Renovation - Raising Toilet Flange to Finished Floor

Hi all, Looking for advice on my approach for raising the height of the toilet flange in a bathroom I am renovating. I have the old flooring torn out down to the subfloor on which the flange is currently sitting on. The flange is in good shape fitted over 3" pipe, the OSB subfloor is OK - it passes the screw driver poke test but its evident that water got on it (staining and rusted screws). I'm going to put a layer of 1/2" plywood, ditra heat and tile which will raise the floor about 1... Bathroom Renovation - Raising Toilet Flange to Finished Floor ..read more

Not sure if this belongs here or in the landscaping section, but I'll start here. I have a cased well for irrigation and it's currently on a pump start relay. So timer tells valve(s) to open and pump to start. I want to add a garage toilet and a sink to get water to wash hands, etc. My plan was to ditch the pump start, get a pressure tank and go that route. Having issues with the irrigation and so I broke down and called a company that deals with them and was recommended. He... Pump start and pressure tank ..read more

I know PVC pipe should be seated into a fitting until it reaches the small lip inside the fitting but let's say you're making a repair and you may not be able to achieve full depth. What is acceptable? Note: I'm talking waste / drain line ..read more

External pump for clothes washer's weak water supply?

I'm posting this from India although I think principles will be the same as in the West: though over here, automatic top-load washing machines tend to be smaller & simpler (no intake pumps on common models) and water pressure tends to be quite low. My problem: I need to increase the water pressure, probably by adding a pump at the water intake of the clothes washer. There's no other way around this: the simple electronic control shows an error code if it's not pumping in water fast enough... External pump for clothes washer's weak water supply ..read more

Seeking DIY Advice for Whole Home Water Filtration System

Hey everyone- I'm reaching out for some advice on installing a whole home water filtration system. I live in a rural Midwestern community in the USA, and we're on city water. Our water causes a lot of scale buildup on faucets, and though we have a water softener, it's been out of use for a while. I'm not a fan of the maintenance, especially the salt loading, as it's all the way in my basement. I'm considering a filtration system that could help reduce the scale and also tackle the chlorine...
