Last week, we celebrated our baby boy’s first birthday with a backyard barbecue, surrounded by family and friends.
It was a beautiful and memorable day, made even more enjoyable with our newly refreshed patio space. Our yard has been admittedly underutilized since revamping our landscaping two years ago, but now that we have two active kiddos running around, we’ve been spending a lot more time outside.
We’ve been really happy with our plant selection this second time around. The viburnum suspensum bushes along the fence and house have more than doubled in size and stayed green all year long ..read more

Inspiration
This type of art certainly isn’t new, and has been done by many artists and DIYers alike. When searching for inspiration, I came across Kaleen Cameron‘s work and fell in love with her style.

After two years of designing, DIYing, and mostly procrastinating… the wait is finally over! Our little laundry room is complete. Here’s how the 67″x90″ space looked for nearly three years after we moved in:
In early 2022, I found inspiration and came up with a design plan. We installed herringbone brick floors, and reeded glass window film on the pocket door.
We got a new stacking washer & dryer, painted the vinyl window, built custom cabinetry, found the perfect butcher block stain and built a clothes drying rack.
Over the last couple weeks, the doors have been built (tutorial coming s ..read more

This simple and inexpensive DIY blends form and function with its space-saving, traditional design. Perfect for drying or hanging clothes to steam, and folds away when not in use. Customize it to any size, stain or paint you’d like! Keep reading to find out how to build your own wall mounted clothes drying rack.
A clothes drying/steaming rack was one must-have for our new laundry room, but with such a confined space, my options were limited. I considered this sleek pull-out drying rack, but then found this traditional wood rack that I felt suited our space better. However, I didn’t want to sp ..read more

Whether you’re trying to change the color of wood or match an existing piece, wood bleach is a game-changer that every DIYer should know about. In this post, I’ll share the three different methods to lighten wood, a before + after test on six common species, and how I bleached our butcher block countertops!
If you’ve had experience staining wood, you probably already know that wood stain only enhances the color of the wood, it doesn’t completely change it. Even semi-solid stains allow the underlying wood tone to show through. Bleaching wood is the only way to remove the color, giving you much ..read more

If you have vinyl windows and are thinking about changing the color, read this first! I’m breaking down the different methods, pros and cons of each, and my favorite way to achieve professional, lasting results.
As part of our laundry room makeover, I decided to paint our vinyl window a lovely sage green to match the cabinetry. Our first experience painting vinyl windows was last year, in Esmé’s big girl room. We learned a few things during that process, so I was prepared the second time around, and ready to share everything I knew in a tutorial.
There are a few ways to go about painting viny ..read more

Way back in 2019 after we purchased our living room sofa, I published a roundup of similar linen and slipcovered options, all under $2k. The post has been popular over the years, but most of the sofas have now been discontinued or increased in price, so I figured it was time for an updated roundup!
Our living room sources
To this day, I’m often asked about how our sofa is holding up and if we still love it. The answer is a resounding YES—it still looks new after two kids, a cat, and countless gatherings. Despite the light linen fabric and “dry clean only” label, I’ve spot treated, used my Biss ..read more
