BELIEVING GOD'S PROMISES

Most of us are familiar with the story of Sarah and Abraham. When Sarah was told that she was to have a child in her old age, she laughed. When she was called on the fact that she laughed, she lied and said that she did not laugh. Sarah had received the prophecy based on her natural circumstances and not based on God’s supernatural power (Genesis 18:10-14). When we view God’s prophetic words, as revealed in the bible, based on our present circumstances, we may have a hard time believing them. Yet, we know that there is nothing too difficult for God to do. If he could create the universe in ..read more

In the world we have been accustomed to earning what we receive. We are paid wages for doing work. Most of us do not expect to get something for nothing. Unfortunately, this attitude has been transferred to how we perceive God. We feel that we have to be “good-enough” to earn His blessings. Nothing could be further from the truth. The mercies and blessings of God are bestowed upon us, not because we have earned them, but because we have faith to receive them. It is good to want to be the people that God wants us to be, but we must accept that we will constantly fall short, because of the fl ..read more

How to Pray
Joy’s Newsletter

Jesus gave us guidelines on how to pray: Luke 11:1 “One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” We will look at this prayer in detail: “Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come”. The word hallowed means, greatly revered and honored. If you are like me, you find it offensive when people use the Lord’s name in vain. When they say “Jesus Christ” as if it is a type of profanity.  “Your kingdom come”. God’s kingdom on earth is made up of those who believe ..read more

The Church at War

The bible tells us that the church is also the army of God. Ephesians 6:11 “ Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” We are warring against the devil and his schemes. The armor as described in Ephesians 6:13-18 is what we need in order to be victorious in this battle. Each part of the armor plays an important role. Some parts represent knowledge, some protection, some for offence. Without the helmet of salvation, none of the other parts of the armor come into play. We have first to be saved and receive the Holy Spirit for the arm ..read more

Meaning of the word “entitled”: Believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment. A person who feels entitled will resent anything that happens to them that is not pleasant. They believe that they should not have to deal with anything that resembles a trial. The bible’s words are not in keeping with this outlook on life. As shown in this scripture: 1 Peter 4:12, “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:” Many times, what we perceive as trials ..read more

COMPONENTS OF A MIRACLE

I shared some time ago about the miraculous provision of God, when my car got a flat tire on a road trip. I was driving from Florida to New Jersey in an older car with a U-haul trailer hitched to the back. It was an ambitious trip and one I had prayed about taking. I had a premonition about getting a flat tire but hoped for the best. My daughter, about 9 years old, then, accompanied me. As soon as I entered New Jersey I felt and heard the tell-tale signs of a flat tire. I had noticed a repair shop a little less than a mile, prior.  It was late evening and daylight was fading. I told my ..read more

My family has adopted two shelter animals:  A dog and a cat. The latest addition to our household is a Corgi. After waiting several years with no success finding one at a shelter, we went ahead and got one from a farm in Ocala, FL. He cost considerably more than our shelter pets, who have been a blessing, but he was well worth it. The woman whom we purchased him from was able to predict exactly how he would behave. It confirmed, for me, that specific breeds have specific characteristics. He is extremely playful; likes to chew things; is very loving. Fortunately, he has toys to chew on ..read more

Matthew 7:24-27: 24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” Both s ..read more

John 8:32 NKJV “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” If the truth sets us free, then lies must put us in bondage. It is the truth that delivers us from the snares of lies. Today, there are so many lies, and false truths being disseminated on the internet, the news, etc., that it takes a lot of discernment to know the truth. There is one person who cannot be fooled by lies living within us. That person is the Holy Spirit. He is called the Spirit of Truth. John 14:16-17 NKJV, “ And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may ..read more

Sometimes it takes a focused effort to be thankful. We tend to focus on our problems more than we focus on the things that are going smoothly and are a blessing. Having a thankful heart causes us to enjoy life more. I am sure you can think of many things to be thankful for today…do you have a roof over your head, do you have food to eat, are you in your right mind, do you have friends and family who treat you with love, do you have money, do you have a vision and a goal for your life?  Hope is something to be thankful for. As long as we have hope for the future, we are able to press on ..read more
