Embracing the Gift of Aging: Living Each Day with Abundance, Gratitude, and a Dash of Humour I’m just gonna go ahead and say it. It’s my birthday, and I am going to party like you’ve never seen… and by party, I mean watch a good rom-com and hit the hay by 9:00! Who knew living on the edge could be so comfy? Am I the only person who gets all nostalgic around their birthday? I always give thought to where the past year brought me. What have I accomplished? What’s next? This past year for me has been amazing. Everyone is healthy!!! We moved from our Corner House to our new digs—a completely dif ..read more

The Art of Embracing Life’s Unhurried Beauty Speed Demons Anonymous From the moment we can walk, we’re thrust onto the fast track of life. We’re taught from a young age that faster is better, it’s more efficient…that fine art of multitasking like an octopus on caffeine. You know what it’s like. Most of us are retired, and we do have the ability to enjoy the luxury of time. However, how many of us brush our teeth while tidying the bathroom or eat our breakfast while stacking the dishwasher? Society’s mantra seems to be: “Faster, faster, faster!” Consequently, as we move through our days in a bl ..read more

DIY – Painted Vanity Here is a before photo of our powder room when we moved in. What this powder room needed A new light fixture. This single lightbulb was too small A bigger mirror. A vanity – preferably with storage Updated faucet Some wow factor on the walls I bought this vanity on Facebook Marketplace for $50. Even though it was a great price, I was a bit worried about the colour of the counter but it worked out just fine. This vanity turned out so pretty. I am so glad I went ahead with this painting project and did not leave the dark wood finish on it. Sadly it doesn’t have as much s ..read more

The first time I ever hung wallpaper was when I was about 12 years old. My mom purchased some wallpaper to do a focal wall in my bedroom. It had the prettiest tiny pink roses on it. I couldn’t wait for my mom to put it up….like I REALLY couldn’t wait!! As soon as she went to visit my grandma I decided to try my hand at it by myself. I moved my bed out of the way and rolled up my carpet. I had seen my mom do it before and figured…hmm, she made it look so easy! I got the first piece up no problem. Then the second. I stood back to admire my handy work so far and YIKES! I didn’t think abou ..read more

April showers may bring May flowers…but it is the May flowers that bring on the wedding season! Happy June 1st. Stuart & Maxine, a July bride. Who doesn’t love a beautiful June bride…or July, or August. Summer weddings are so special. If you have ever wondered where the title ‘June bride’ came from it was the Roman goddess Juno which is where the name June derived from. Juno was the goddess of marriage. June brides were thought to be blessed with happiness forever. This blog isn’t to give wedding planning advice…although that would be so fun. It’s all about wedding rituals.  I love ..read more

Happy Gotcha Day May 2-4 Memories May 24th, or “May 2-4” as we used to call it when we were young, was the most exciting long weekend of all. It marked the beginning of summer. I can remember asking an older friend to get me and my pals some beer for the weekend parties that were sure to pop up. Whether it was in someone’s backyard or we all went camping, whatever we did, we were sure to have fun. You remember those days? So long ago A New Kind of Excitement Five years ago on May 2-4, I got excited for a completely different reason. May 24th, 2019, marks the day that Tank came into our lives ..read more

This picture of my side porch at the Corner House was probably my favourite year for my flower boxes. The yellow begonias were stunning. The ferns couldn’t be an easier plant to look after. They are hardy and were forgiving when I forgot about them I’ve been going on and on about how excited I am to be starting my garden. I just need to clarify something, come clean…when I say that ‘I’ am excited, I really mean that I am excited to watch Benjamin dig my gardens FOR me. Not sure if I EVER mentioned that! Ben is going to get the beds ready for me and then I will take over with the plantings. I ..read more

Herb-Infused Bliss: Growing Your Way to Health and Flavor

I love having fresh herbs ready for picking. My personal favourites are basil, rosemary, cilantro and thyme. I like to grow mint as well. I started growing mint a few years ago when my friend Sue, shared a plant with me. Now it is a favourite to grow. It can quickly take over your garden so make sure you plant in a planter if that is an issue for you. This year I want to step outside of the usual plantings and add some dill for all the fish we eat. It is always fun to experiment with different flavours and tailor your herb garden to what you eat on a regular basis. This is a favourite snack ..read more

I don’t know about you Savvy snowbirds…but my skin is so dry! It’s feels like sandpaper. I am licking my lips non-stop! I hear people complain about humidity in Florida but boy is it good for keeping your skin dewy fresh!! I have been reading a lot about the benefits of dry brushing and thought I’d give it a go. The hardest part is remembering to do it before I get into the shower. Half the time I am part way through my shower and I realize I’ve forgotten and I make that face. You know the one I mean? You shoulder’s slump, you look up, your mouth gapes open and you moan “Uhg” LOL..did you ..read more
