It's Michaelmas Embertide!
Liturgy of the Home Blog

Did you know that during the Middle Ages, the feast of St. Michael, referred to as "Michaelmas", was one of the biggest feasts of the year, as it marked the turning point between autumn and winter? Throughout the middle ages, people used feasts, rather than months, to create time, as you see in novels that take place during that period. For example, in the all-time classic Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset, which takes place in 14th century Norway, you see this quite frequently, as when her wedding approaches, the text reads: "They were to be wedded the second Sunday after Michaelmas." I have here a quick update as all of you who have purchased our Lent calendar for 2021 have no doubt noticed that what you have up on your wall now is drawing to an end, and yet Lent is not over yet. In fact, the climax of this season is still to come in Holy Week. Some of you are probably wondering... where is Part II? Almost finished, it is. I will be sending it out to all who have already purchased, and I will list it by itself for anyone who has not joined us yet, and wants to. Michaela, Kateri, and Rose have something particularly special (I did get to play a little part too...) for you ..read more

A New Chapter Begins...

For the first time, our work is published! We turned in the files several weeks ago to Sophia, and the posters are going to be shipped out to customers. They are available for pre-order at Sophia's website and we will be working with them over the next couple of months to spread the word to Catholics all over. We still have a long way to go, we are working on illustrating Volume II (Septuagesima, Lent, and Easter) and will be working at quite a pace for the next 10 months or so until the whole year is illustrated. If you are new to our project, take a look at our website. To get fully printed ..read more

The Pentecost calendar is complete!
Liturgy of the Home Blog
by jeremiah50
2y ago
Well, it has been quite a journey to get here, but we have finished our Pentecost calendar for this year. We were able to get the first half out in time (barely...) to get to our members. Well, now we have finished the second half. Now, this calendar does not go through all the time of Pentecost, but the first 3 weeks. You see, we are switching gears and going to stop illustrating this year and prepare to publish and get them printed, which is our final goal. We need to lead time to do this right. Don't worry, though, we will still illustrate the whole liturgical year, (Imagine what we could ..read more

Holy Saturday
Liturgy of the Home Blog
by jeremiah50

I have always felt that this day was one of great silence. After the Good Friday liturgy, and Christ has been taken down from the Cross and laid in the tomb, there is such a silence. But it isn't a silence of despair, but of hope. But, I really like what Michaela captured in her image for this day, the fact that while it is silent above, in our world, something is stirring in the deep... Christ has broken the doors of hell, and preparing to lead all those who sleep in Him up to paradise! May God bless you all on this Holy Saturday ..read more

I apologize to all of you who have been following along diligently as I have put together a companion guide taken from Dom Guéranger's The Liturgical Year, as I am not going to get this week out on time... We have had a death in the family and with preparing for the funeral and all the family who have come into town, I have not been able to put the guide out. My real goal has been to get ahead, but I have not accomplished that yet. So, if you have come looking for the latest download, it isn't here. I will send out an email when I get it up. Thank you for bearing with us as we do this work and ..read more
