Little Juniata/Spruce Creek tips
Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Forum

Heading to the Little J in a few days, have never fished it. Any tips re spring methods, flies, gear? If the river is still high I may be throwing streamers with a 5wt (or 6wt, if needed) and a floating or sink-tip line. Do we know whether crayfish, dace or sculpin are in that river? My understanding is tan caddis and blue-winged olives, possibly sulphurs. I'll likely rig up a 3wt or 4wt for those. Hoping to do a little wet-fly fishing. Will also hit Spruce Creek. Have an opportunity to... Read more ..read more

Rough weather leads to decrease in Pa. fishing license sales down ~10%

Rough weather leads to decrease in Pa. fishing license sales. Fishing licenses in Pennsylvania are down 10-11% primarily because of the cold weather and high waters that greeted anglers over the start of trout season. Just as interesting is in 2023, the agency sold 448,884 licenses and 397,782 trout and combination permits by April 21. This year anglers have purchased 401,875 licenses, a 10.47% decrease, and 353,602 trout and combination permits, a decrease of 11.11%. That seems way down... Read more ..read more

Trout Fishing Near Rome/Canasota, New York
Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Forum

My son has recently transferred to the Rome / Canasota, New York area (east of Syracuse). He lives pretty much on Oneida Lake, and he's received pretty good local information on fishing the lake. Can anybody steer us toward good trout fishing streams in the area? He's pretty much a spinner and Rapala fisherman, but has started to learn fly fishing. I prefer fly fishing and am looking for something that resembles our PA streams. Any help or local knowledge would be appreciated. Feel... Read more ..read more

Tampa Area Salt Water trips.

It's time for our annual family trip to the Tampa area for a visit with the wife's family. This translates to her visiting her Mom and other family while I spend the days fishing and relaxing. This year should prove to be more promising than past trip since I was able to talk to the owner of Anna Marie Island Outfitters. He gave me some hot spots for wading with a fly rod that I was unaware of in the past. Last year when I talked to him he said stop by when I get down and he'll let me know... Read more ..read more

I'll admit, I'm a bit of a gear junkie and I'll give something a shot if I think it will make life on the stream easier. Anyone have any experience with the O'Pros Belt Clip Rod Holder? I've seen the Lively Legz guys using them in their videos and they actually look pretty convenient. They're made in the USA and at $25, it might be worth while. Belt Clip Rod Holder with slide lock O’Pros Belt Clip Rod Holder for Fly and Spinning Rod - Securely attaches to any belt from 2” to 1” - Rotates 360 degrees for desired rod angle - Unlock / Lock button easily allows rod holder to rotate or lock into ..read more

WHITE Rubber/Silicone Legs..???..your thoughts please

I recently started to tie my first batch of Pat's Rubber Legs. Scrolling thru various recipes , some tied with White Legs. For the life of me, NO WAY I can get myself to even think about using White Legs... compared to a multitude of other color options ( amber, olive, copper, ginger, etc) ,...that r more representative of colors found in stream bed life. I know I can use a Sharpie to customize the white color. That is not an attractive option for me. Pretty accurate to admit there r... Read more ..read more
