Does anyone have any feedback on wading the DPR in Riverside? Is the bed of the river muck, or a safe gravel bottom? I’d like to try wading for some Northern Pike in this area of the river. Thanks so much ..read more

Hit the same spot as last Friday after work yesterday. During my walk to the water, I debated walking upstream or down this time which ended up being an internal monologue for the duration of my short 100 ish minute outing. Only brought one rod this time, ended up being all I needed as per usual. Since I haven't said what my setup is in a while, my primary combo is a Dobyns Champion XP 735c paired with a Shimano Scorpion DC with 30 lb Sufix 832. Topwater, so running straight braid.

Went back to busse yesterday to find the spot I was planning on fishing from had been taken by the Busse legend himself, Jeff. I decided to head upriver to where salt creek empties into the pool. I spotted something that looked vaguely like a pike or muskie stitting in the current but assumed it was just a stick and switched to a new spot. About half an hour later I came back to the current and noticed that the “stick” had moved up shallower and I could make out the pointed fins of a ski. I...

Water levels are low and slow. I particularly like these levels when i want to check out a new area. The low water identifies the rock bars and main current channel which makes wading a little safer. Plus the fish seem to concentrate in predictable areas. Anyone considering to start wade fishing I highly recommend these water conditions.
First time visiting an area downstream from Yorkville. I walked and cast the shorelines with a J-9. That lure can be used almost like a top water and...

After a pretty terrible month of August fishing, could not be more excited for Salmon season to finally arrive!!! Didn't help that I bought a new salmon rod & reel a few months ago, the itch was bad....
We went out for our 1st try on Saturday night behind the planetarium from around 9-11 PM. Tossed wobblers, cleos, moonshines without a sniff. The few salmon we have caught have all been on crankbaits, trying to land one on a spoon. I hear for spoons super slow retrieve is better?

Work has been stressful lately to say the least. Extremely high census, staff that forgets training within days, illness everywhere. I've been working a lot of overtime lately because the pay is good and we got baby #2 on the way in February. Pair that with having a three year old at home that won't listen to save his life and has the energy of a honey badger...times have been tough in this neck of the woods.
One of our second shifters has a full time job elsewhere, so the earliest he can...

Been waiting for the temp to go down to finally target muskie after about 2 months barely even thinking of them until yesterday when I said “screw it I’m going to Busse”. I put a chub under a bobber in the Arlington heights road pool while I rigged up my other rod when my chub started booking it towards the bank. I was getting up to recast when I spotted my chub swimming across the surface. It was about a foot from the weedline when it got absolutely torpedoed by a little muskie on the...

First time on Delavan since the Spring. The water cooling down had the pike active and did some good damage on chatterbaits and topwaters. Unfortunately sent a few Jackhammers into the abyss due to equipment malfunctions. Also broke a rod tip this morning taking the rods out of my Tahoe. A little out of rhythm I suppose from all the lazy trolling I have been doing this summer. Still nice to be back out there slinging baits. After the pike died down, I tried looking for schooling bass out...
