Typical fishing weather today. Headed north 30km punching into 1m chop on a 1.5m swell, with the advantage of running back with it on my run back home in the back of my head. Water was bellow 15'c which seemed to of shut the fish down, so no sign of a snapper anywhere. Moved from spot to spot ending up out in 120m of water at one point before heading back around 60m depths. I noticed a few fish sitting in the upper 20m which I was surprised to pull these two rarities from.  Here's the typical bit!!!!!.....wind kicked up from the south, meaning I had a 30k run back home punching into wors ..read more

Been having more success testing out the scent additive over the past week. From the shore Ive been using one outfit with the sticky stuff and one (sometimes two) without and all the fish apart from salmon have been on the one outfit with the scent. In saying that these fish have only been banjo rays, port Jacksons and larger sharks Ive not been able to stop. Target species has been jews but these are pretty rare here.  Did a day trip to the mountains yesterday chasing trout with a very experienced trout person in the hope of learning a few tricks. Seems I didn't need any new tricks as I ..read more

RIP John Bethune “Mr Bass

From Starlos fb page.  Sad to hear of the passing of Australia's original "Mr Bass": John Bethune. I was fortunate enough to wet a line on quite a few occasions with John over the years, and also to share the fishing clinic stage with him at a number of Sydney Boat Shows. And of course, like so many others, I immensely enjoyed reading his wonderful book, "Bethune On Bass". Few others have done as much as John to put Aussie bass on the map, and to promote recreational fishing in general. He was a true gentleman, much in the ilk of his good mate Dick Lewers, who we also lost a few years ago ..read more

So, even we both was on flue, we packing camping gears on boat and "normal "fishing gears". First looking where put tent. Good place find our "swimming spot". Water was so down, that we get stuck on sandbank 10m before shore. We manouvering, and get reverse, new try little deeper. Still stuck sandbank, but enough shallow walk to shore. We put tent on, and make fire and eat. Then to fishing. Veikka want testing new "top on water" lure, lookslike frog and make bubbles and ..read more

We went 1 week on Finnish "mountains" . Plan was try graylings and white fishs. We have been this area years after years. Water temperature is normally between +5'c to +13'c. Now it was +19'c !!. So we know that chance catch bigger fish is minimalistic. Edit: End of this report is links to earlier years reports from same area, when we catch nice fishs Anyway. We start trip driving 14 hours by car to Kilpisjärvi with Vili and my uncle Esko. We met rest of group there.   We tuck helicopter and fly to Poroeno river, was really hot. First i put my heat measure in water and it was + 19.5'c. OM ..read more

My Port Douglas trip...

I've never been fishing to FNQ, but a recent report from Basil D stirred my interest. Starved of fishing opportunities in this long, cold Winter, I made the decision to venture North. As often happens with new experiences there are positives and negatives. Starting off with the negatives, the fishing opportunities were limited. Very rough seas saw the anticipated charter a non- event till late in the week. When it did happen I fished with 16 other anglers and faired worst of them all, nabbing only half a dozen small reef species. Others caught Nannygai, Coral Trout, Spanish Mackeral, and other ..read more
