Anyone ever try these? They were cheap (from China) on ebay so I thought I would give them a try. I usually use a #8 when carping, but these #8's are somewhat bigger than the standard #8, more like a #6. But what the heck...it'll hold more kernals. We'll see next week...70's all week ..read more

I’m looking for resources to up my carp game which currently consists of throwing two or three cans of sweet corn into a likely area and then fishing corn on a #4 mosquito hook and split shot rig. I’ve tried to pick things up from a few English carping channels on YouTube but most of it is geared toward more advanced techniques. I do catch carp with good regularity but I’d like to target bigger fish and feel like I need more appropriate gear and some better insight. I’d greatly appreciate... Not sure if it will out perform what I have been using. Also its almost ice out here in Illinois so Im going to hit the lake here this week. How soon in the season does everyone else notice the bite start to pick up ..read more

Chumming For Carp Works Great....But.....

I've been doing some advance chumming at my local lake for the past couple of months when I know I'll be carp fishing, and it's really produced some good- number days. But there's a down side to chumming that can be a pain sometimes. I'd say at least 70% of the fish I've caught were deep hooked. No gut hooks...but 3 to 4 inches inside the mouth. And a squirrely carp can be a real challenge to remove a deep hook, especially when I don't tire em out. I've gone to the plastic taper stick... Chumming For Carp Works Great....But ..read more

Not really about carp fishing but about carp, the invasive Asian ones. Didn't get the whole story but while I was pumping gas into the wife's truck today I left the radio playing. The local news was on and if I heard correct the IL. DNR harvested over 700,000 lbs. of invasive Asian Carp from the IL. River. Right at 3/4 million lbs. harvested and likely no noticeable decrease in their numbers just shows how prolific they are I guess ..read more

Carp Reel Advice?

So I've commissioned my catfish tackle for Carp duty this year. I have an ABU 6500 Pro Rocket Black edition and a Catfish Pro Rocket Edition. Love them both, these reels are like the Rolls Royce of reels. Smooth casting and drag. The reels look similar however the black edition has one more bearing on the worm gear. I've been looking at the new Carp Pro they have out. It doesn't have the power handle (but that's an easy upgrade), but I just noticed it has higher gearing 6:3:1 vs 5:3:1. Does...
