Angler uncorks enormous walleye from ice on Lake Ontario Ed Green of Northampton, Penn., caught this whale of a walleye recently while ice fishing on Lake Ontario's Chaumont Bay. The fish measured 31 ¼ inches long, with a 20-inch girth, and weighed 16.3 lb, only two pounds shy of the state record. I've been wanting to get out on the ice for awhile, and finally got some gear on sale from a few places to make it happen today. Hit Rose Valley Lake in Lycoming County - and drilled down 10-12" of ice, maybe more. Got a nice pike and had a blast despite no other bites. Great time and a beautiful day. Question though - and I'm sure I know this, but is it normal to hear the ice popping and thumping? Despite logic telling me all is fine with that much ice, an a ton of other folks out...
