I headed out to West Shoal Lake today to try and target some perch. This was only my second time fishing West Shoal Lake. I walked on at the Game Bird Refuge on the west side. The first spot I drilled was 6 ft deep, so moved a bit further out and found 8 ft. Caught one small jack in this spot. Moved out a little further and it was 9 ft deep. Been fishing since january... but nothing picture worthy, I mean very grateful with this amazing fisheries. been catching countless 22 "- 26" fish. February we started seeing mid winter pattern, deeper fish.. but there a shallow bite going on, mostly in the morning less than 7FOW and still continues as of now, mix bag of eater and same year class of 22"- 26". occasional 27+. after the morning bite, we are back to deeper water.. a lot of them are suspended up to 2ft under the ice just... Ive been hearing people complaining "forward facing sonar" causing a finicky bite.. just my personal experience, been using livescope ever since they come out. with 2d or traditional flasher you dont really see fish 30+ft out, coming to you and leave. we usually drill and fish it for 5min, if no mark we moved on (a.k.a finding aggressive fish) In open water, some of fish is acting this way also, specially in high traffic areas. but you can get them bite by different type jigging retrieve...
