Scott Williamson – former chairman of Blackadders Solicitors and past Lord Dean of Guild of the Guildry Incorporation of Dundee – has died aged 69 after being taken ill at his home in Fife. Past Deacon Convenor, Murray Petrie said, “It is nearly eight years since I became Deacon Convenor and when I took office I was immediately faced with an investigation into the Nine Trades by OSCR.  It was then that Scott Williamson came to our rescue.  Scott in essence held our hands and guided us not only in our dealings with OSCR but held reorganise our governance and constitution. Sarah Craig has become the first woman and third generation of Craigs to become a member of the Flesher craft. Her family, who owned Robertson the Butchers, have been active in the Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee for over 80 years and Sarah follows in the footsteps of her Grandfather Thomas Craig and Father David Craig, both Master Butchers. This year’s Innes Duffus Memorial Lecture took place on Thursday 21st of March at Discovery Point. Naval Architect, Stephen Payne, delivered the lecture to an audience of over 95 people. The title of the lecture was ‘Genesis of A Queen’ based on the design of the Queen Mary II. It was an amazing evening and Stephen passionately unfolded a story of a life long ambition to design a British transatlantic ocean liner. On Friday 22nd march, The Hammerman Incorporation of Dundee held their Annual Dinner. There was a large number of members and guests who enjoyed a wonderful evening at The Woodlands Hotel. Speakers included, Andrii Ponomarenko from Wellwood Leslie Architects who gave the Toast to The City of Dundee. Dr Paul Jennings, Executive Director of Dundee Museum gave the Reply. The Bonnetmakers had a fantastic September Supper at The Woodlands Hotel on March 6th. Around 50 members joined, adding to the evening’s camaraderie. David Lord, editor of The Sunday Post and Evening Telegraph, was welcomed as a new member, enriching our community. Dr. Rebecca Wade, a Homeward Bound participant, shared her incredible journey to Antarctica. Her talk left us inspired and in awe of her experiences. Deacon of the Dyers, Steve Flack and Mhairi Towler (Charity Convenor for the Dyers Craft) visited Strathmartine Community Larder at 24 St. Giles Terrace, Dundee to have a look at how The Nine Trades Charity funding awarded to the Larder had been spent. They were welcomed by Heather Breen and Melanie Kiyani (Chairperson of the Larder). The volunteers aim to provide local people with low-cost food to ensure everyone has access to affordable food for themselves and their families. On May 14th 2019 a civic reception was held to mark the amazing contribution of Innes Duffus to The Nine Trades, The Three Trades and The Guildry. Innes Duffus was appointed Master of Commerce, Craft and Trade. The Innes Duffus Scholarship Fund and an Annual Lecture Programme, focussed on the history of Dundee was also established.
