Cardboard Raft

I have seen a lot of posts about making cardboard boats for a race, but we are wanting to do a raft instead (not competitive, just fun). Our plan is to do a castaway raft with props, but not sure if this is a possibility with just cardboard and tape. Any ideas? submitted by /u/dnd214 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Questions about building a boat (I have no experience)

First some quick context: I and a friend want to build a boat. We already have an engine (suzuki df5) which we will mount on to it. No sail or anything. We have not decided on anything yet but will probably be about 10 ft. We will make a hull of plywood and then cover it with fiber glass. The design we'll be going for will be similar to this: https://youtu.be/Eo6UKCfFpGc So, a few questions: How thick plywood is necessery? How much extra structure should we add, or is the rough amount used in the video enough, considering that we are using an engine? What can we expect it to cost if we ..read more

Window Shade snaps not sticking

I’ve got a Nimbus C9 that I am working on. The snaps on the boats glass for the window shades came off from the factory. Nimbus is not much help as they recommend the same adhesive that broke off in the first place. We made an attempt with 3Ms rear view mirror adhesive to no luck. Curious if anyone else has ever done something similar. Essentially I’m asking for help finding a good strong adhesive that will bond to plastic and glass. As you can see in the photos some of the snaps did stay but most came off with hardly any force. Unfortunately the tech who did it initially is no longer wit ..read more

Time to change the old solution for something a bit more sophisticated

This is for the bilge pumps exiting through the hull. I previously change the bilge pump to a working one with a smaller connection and "temporarily" put it together somehow. Now the hose gave out and while removing it I noticed that the old elbow was just loosely laying in the hole through the hull, held in place mostly by the hose. So I thought I might as well change it to something with the same diameter connection as the pump, for ease of assembly and repair. submitted by /u/ThursdaysWithDad [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Accidentally bumped my gunwale while building and it caused a small crack at the edge. Never repaired fiberglass before! Any recommendations on how to approach a repair? I’m going for a bright finish and would love to hide this mark as much as possible. submitted by /u/everydaypizzaday [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Printed out some front guards from ABS. Also printed one wheel bracket from ABS and they turned out great. We will see how long they last. I was printing the second one when my filament ran out and apparently I don’t have any more in the stockpile. The wood strips are just some runners to give the bottom a bit more protection. Obviously all these parts are just being test fit at the moment, I’ll countersink all the bolts before final install. The wood will be sealed and mounted with the bolts and 3M 5200 for a permanent install. The plastic parts will be mounted with bolts and 4200 so the ..read more
