What kind of internet do we want to have?

It’s very interesting when a large scale cultural shift is happening, and you can see it. Normally It’s like the movements of tectonic plates; so gradual you don’t really notice it. However, at the moment, it feels like culture at large is reevaluating the current incarnation of the internet. Of course, this is mainly spurred on by twitter rapidly changing from a bad place to a worse place because a billionaire is using it to work through his grievances. But there is also a general feeling the internet in many ways has become too frustrating to use with any enjoyment. Every social media site i ..read more

Why are we dreaming of the Multiverse?
The Solarpunk Druid

Pop culture seems to be having a real thing for the multiverse lately. Most high profile is the marvel franchise, but smaller stories also seem to be diving into this concept. The Indy movie everything everywhere all at once really captured peoples hearts and imaginations with its exploration of meaning in a multiverse (along with so many other themes) longrunning tv shows seem to be delving more and more into alternate universes. And this past week I fired up my Nintendo Switch to find bayonetta 3, a long awaited video game, had a plot around…you guessed it, the multiverse. So why now. What i ..read more

Minific: How to Rule
The Solarpunk Druid
by jackalope
5M ago
The next destined ruler of the British isle goes to the lake, to receive the pre ordained blessing of the lady of the lake, like Arthur did in times past. As they wade out into the shallows, the etherial white hand emerges, baring…..a bankcard? “Wait, shouldn’t I be getting Excalibur?” asks the confused chosen one. The lady of the lake’s inhuman voice flows back through the lapping of the waves, “The sword was how the land was conquered in Arthurs time. In yours, it seems having the most financial resources is how you really rule. We now extend to you an unlimited line of credit.” The chosen o ..read more

International Train travel log

5.15am Why. Why did I book the earliest train? I am not a morning person. 6.30 Currently at local train station. You know what, it’s actually really nice how peaceful the world is. I actually feel like im not getting sensory overload and don’t need my noise cancelling headphones. 7.43 Just gone through check in and security. Prity much the same as airport if a little shorter. I ended up behind a family of people that haven’t seemed to travel before and are confusedly doddering about at security. Im wondering why check-ins don’t do single person lines like theme park rides 7.54 First one in the ..read more

London Trans Pride

Trans joy is power I attended the London Trans pride march today as part of the London Leathermen, turning up to show solidarity with our queer siblings. The turnout was amazing. Many multiples than what it was last year. There were so many great signs, but the one pictured above really resonated with me. Joy and self love in a world that doesn’t want you to even exist is a powerful act. We, as queer people, have power in our queerness. In our community. In our joy. And it’s important we remember that ..read more

Care and Restoration

I wanted to write about a theme running through my life. It is the care of things. Online I’ve been watching a lot of restoration videos. The calm, simply paced videos tend to have no sound track. No overvoice. Just the plain diegetic sound of the tools being used. They start by presenting an object. Normally an old tool or device of wood and metal; a handcrank coffey grinder, and rusted axe, an old washpress. The a person meticulously takes it down to it’s component parts and restores each one to its most pristine state. All metal is de-rusted and buffed, paintjobs and lables re-created, all ..read more

Biocentrism and Ecocentrism as a Core Part of Nature Spirituality
The Solarpunk Druid

Once you begin walking the path of nature spirituality, things begin shifting. A tree is not just a tree, an insect is not just an insect–they are beings in their own right, with stories to share, lessons to offer, and a right to live freely and in a healthy ecosystem. You realize the boundaries between […] Biocentrism and Ecocentrism as a Core Part of Nature Spirituality ☝️this is a great article that touches on some things going about my head in 5he last year or two. Living in a monotheistic, Christian society we often fundementally conceptualise spirituality as something discreet and onto ..read more

A Local Horned God

I will never stop being charmed by the fact that where I live has its own version of a horned god. It also is typical that where I live has an artisnal, locally sourced horned god ? The story of how this came about is actually a fascinating tale about how storytelling can form community identity. However, as I don’t want to give away where I live directly on the internet at this point in time, that will have to wait for another day ..read more
