The refrain that we need to reconnect to nature is a deep and understandable need. In the hegemony of the global north at least. We live in a society deeply bound up ways of life disconnected from a lot of things humans need. Exposure and interactions with fauna and flora and the ellements are vital to us and our lives often do not permit this. So our need to reconnect to nature feels obvious to us. It’s very interesting when a large scale cultural shift is happening, and you can see it. Normally It’s like the movements of tectonic plates; so gradual you don’t really notice it. Trans joy is power I attended the London Trans pride march today as part of the London Leathermen, turning up to show solidarity with our queer siblings. The turnout was amazing. Many multiples than what it was last year. There were so many great signs, but the one pictured above really resonated with me. I wanted to write about a theme running through my life. It is the care of things. Online I’ve been watching a lot of restoration videos. The calm, simply paced videos tend to have no sound track. No overvoice. Just the plain diegetic sound of the tools being used. They start by presenting an object. Normally an old tool or device of wood and metal; a handcrank coffey grinder, and rusted axe, an old washpress.
