Does make a lather that is slick and protective, and lends itself to a very smooth shave, another positive, and then there's this "other thing" -- it seems that the lather, ample and slick as it may be, doesn't like to come out of the brush. If it doesn't flow out of the brush and deposit itself on the face, then what good is it? Must be a chemical thing. It just collects and remains inside the brush. If the brush is moved around and about on the face or squeezed ..read more

Chris, I just saw this but last week I dug out my French Vetiver Salter cream and shaved with it twice that week. It really does make a nice creamy dense lather. It's spring so the scent is appropriate. I have the old white tub myself. Chris Statistics: Posted by EL Alamein — Wed Mar 27, 2024 9:00 pm ..read more

Yes, a little rusty. Yesterday I used the Hart Steel razor and had another very enjoyable experience. I've learned something different about using straights, as far as my own face is concerned. The passage of time has made the contour of my chin permanently too rough and rugged for the open blades. Sad but true. In the future I will continue to enjoy the straight razor experience on about 70% of my whiskers, but the good news is that the General single edge safety razor will resume 100% chin-shaving occasions, no matter which type of razors are used on the rest of the whiskers. No problem and ..read more

Monday's shave was provided by the Hart straight razor and the cream was Caswell Massey Almond brushless. I think I should make it a habit to use one of the open razors on Monday every week for a while. Statistics: Posted by brothers — Mon Mar 25, 2024 2:09 pm ..read more

It's fascinating to reflect on the evolution of lathe work and craftsmanship in brush making, particularly with the transition to more automated processes for safety and efficiency. However, the preservation of traditional techniques, like handmade badger knots, adds a unique touch to the final product despite advancements in synthetic materials.
