Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure • Re: Updating/Upgrading Veeam Backup for Azure When Managed by VBR

I have installed a vbaz and have it managed by a vbr server. I noticed when logging on to the webgui there were quite some updates for the appliance. In the VBR server I did not see any option in updating just the appliance. In the end I used the update feature from the webinterface and updated the appliance that way. I noticed some Ubuntu security updates, so again I have updated the appliance from the webinterface. It probably will be a different story if you have to upgrade the appliance to a newer version, but to keep it updated within the appliance version I see no other option than to u ..read more

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure • Re: Failed State in Azure - No Alarm

Hi! By design, Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure skips VMs with the Failed provisioning state during synchronization. If a VM was manually added to the backup scope, during the backup session, the policy will attempt to process it. However, since it cannot be reached, the policy will fail. However, when VMs are added to the backup scope using tags, resource groups, or subscriptions, the backup scope adjusts dynamically with each synchronization with Azure. If a VM is in the Failed state during synchronization, it will be skipped and excluded from the backup scope. Since this VM is no longer i ..read more

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure • Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure appliance errors after applying updates

Hi, Yesterday, we applied the available updates to our Veeam appliance through Veeam Updater UI. There were several updates available and they all were successfully installed and the appliance were rebooted all fine. After applying the updates, we started to see this warning in our Azure portal under this Veeam appliance vm: "Virtual Machines in your subscription are running on images that have been scheduled for deprecation. Once the image is deprecated, new VMs cannot be created from the deprecated image. Upgrade to newer version of the image to prevent disruption to your workloads." As a ..read more

@DavidAmerica I’ve merged your post with the topic around this. Can you see if any of the above workarounds would work for you? Either by using the tag assign workaround or to use the “restore to a new location” and select the original region without changing any settings? Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure • Veeam Azure Backup - Restore to original location blocked by TAG policy

Parent topic: "Case # 07196024 - Request Veeam Support for Advice to Circumvent Tagging Policy During Restore Operation" Hi Everyone, Recently I carried out a routine VM restore, back into the VM's original home location. The process failed due to a subscription tagging policy put in place by the department draconian administrator. The tagging policy is said to be a mandatory measure put in place by senior management, as to enforce ownership tracking and accounting cost control, and therefore it is not a negotiable term that I can request to do away with. The problem is that the algorithm fo ..read more

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure • Re: Feature Request Tags on Snapshots

As mentioned, those tags contain data to restore from them. These are already shortened to not impact having 10 or 20 Veeam snapshots but only a few hence why they use the 256 length which is supported by Microsoft Azure. Have you considered from snapshot based backups to using Azure Blob to reduce the number of snapshots as this will also reduce the cost requirement to store data for a longer time? Hello Yes we already did, but we are still waiting for response. I'am refering about the snapshots. We currently have 4473 Snapshots from Veeam. The other Tags on the Snapshots are very short like "Creator, Description, Creator" which are applied from the disk. So my request is that is may be possible to shorten those value, cause they have a length of 256 which is the limit. And the other thing is that we have Snapshots with 1 Tag from Veeam and other with x Tags, why does Veeam need more than 1 Tag. Thanks for feedback.
