Acts 4:8-12; 1 John 3:1-2; John 10:11-18 Today is the Good Shepherd Sunday and the Vocation Sunday and the word of God presents us with two images, the Children of God and the Good Shepherd.  In today’s gospel passage Jesus emphasizes the self-sacrificing element in his own life that he is the good shepherd who is laying down his life for his sheep.  He contrasts the good shepherd who owns the sheep to someone who is simply hired to look after them.  The scriptures tell us of the extraordinary love of God for us has taken in Jesus the form of the good shepherd.  The image o ..read more

Acts 3:13-15, 17-19; 1 John 2:1-5; Luke 24:35-48 In our journey through life we are confronted with several problems and difficulties which can make us lose our perspective. We can lose all direction to life and remain helpless.  Then left to ourselves we become nothing and tend to remain with uncertainty. In such situations we need positive support, a sincere understanding which can place us on the right path. In the Easter context we see Jesus as a consoler and help to the disciples filled with fear. He comes constantly to them and remains with them, guides them and eats with them.  ..read more

Second Sunday of Easter April 07, 2024 Divine Mercy Sunday Readings:  Acts 4, 32-35;    1 John 5, 1-6;    John 20:19-31 The resurrection of Jesus was a new experience to the disciples.  Even though Jesus had constantly explained to them about his rising from the dead, they were unable to grasp the implication of it. It was not something the disciples of Jesus seem to have anticipated, but now they were confronted with a novel experience of their master. The gospel narrative of today helps them to move from fear to joy, seclusion to mission, absence to pr ..read more

Acts 10:34, 36-43; Colossians 3:1-4 or 1 Corinthians 5:6-8; John 20:1-18 The feast of Easter is the celebration Jesus’ victory over death and mankind’s hope for eternal life. This feast gives us the hope of our own Resurrection and at the same time keeps us united with the living Christ who has promised to be with us.  The theme of today’s Mass includes both proclamation and witness. St Paul tells us that if Jesus is not risen from the dead, our faith be in vain. In the Gospel of the day Mary Magdalene is asked to go and proclaim the Resurrection to all.  To the Disciples the Resurre ..read more

Holy Thursday is the most prayerful and profound of all religious observances, saving only the Easter Vigil. The evening Holy Thursday Liturgy, marks the end of Lent and the beginning of the sacred “Triduum” or the sacred three days of Holy Week, which culminates in the Easter Vigil, and concludes at Vespers on the evening of Easter day. The Mass begins in the evening, because Passover began at sundown; it commemorates Our Lord’s institution of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper. It also stresses the importance of the humility of service manifested by Jesus during his final meal. The ceremo ..read more

Isaiah 50:4-7; Phil 2:6-11; Mark 14:1-15:47 With the celebration of the Palm Sunday or the Passion Sunday we enter into the Holy Week. Passion Sunday is a day to reflect on the pain, suffering and death of our Lord Jesus. The day begins with the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem as King. He is entering with majesty into the Temple city to celebrate the Passover. The gospels record his arrival riding on a donkey, while the crowds spread their cloaks and palm branches on the street and shout “Hosanna to the Son of David” and “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” There is the ..read more

2 Sam. 7:4-5a, 12-14a, 16; Rom. 4:13, 16-18, 22; Mt. 1:16, 18-21, 24a; (or Luke. 2:41-51a) Today we honour Saint Joseph, the man of God’s will, the guardian of Jesus and Mary, and the special patron of our land.  We look at a person who was faithful to God’s plan and always obedient to him.  We admire Joseph as a man of silence and deeds rather than of words. In a world where so many people say ‘my will be done’, Saint Joseph is an example of one who, in his deeds and his words, said to God ‘your will be done’. Like Mary, Joseph too was totally open to the divine plan.  St. Jose ..read more

Jeremiah 31:31-34; Hebrews 5:7-9; John 12:20-33 We are just one week away from the Holy Week and away from our celebration of God’s love shown in the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. For us Christians this season of Lent is a time of special grace in which we experience the presence of a personal God who cares and loves us.  Our response is to transform ourselves and live according to his will.  We want to do something new and come to him in obedience and freedom. Before him we acknowledge our weakness and we know that he is the one who supports us and builds with us new rel ..read more

2 Chronicles 36:14-16, 19-23; Ephesians 2:4-10; John 3:14-21 God’s love is universal and at the same time it is personal.  Our God is concerned of each person individually yet at the same time he loves us as a community. We exist in and through him and particularly so because he is the God who loved the world so much to send his own Son to gather us together that we may have new life in him. God also sends us to carry his divine love into the world and give the message of the newness of life and light.  We are children of the light baptized into the glory that is Christ.  We are ..read more

Exodus 20:1-17; 1 Corinthians 1:22-25; John 2:13-25 The liturgy of the Third Sunday of Lent begins with the acknowledging God´s holiness and his claim on us that we belong to him. It recognizes the fact that we are his own people, and must live in a way that reflects his holiness. God offers us the gift of faith as our path towards holiness. At the same time we all want and desire to live a peaceful life in accordance with God’s will. We all want to make sense of our existence. We all desire to live a life where we can make a positive contribution to ourselves, to our families and to those aro ..read more
