Hi, quick question. River is three and I’ve had him since he was seven weeks old. He goes to bed at seven and I cover his flight cage with a blackout cover. I get him up between eight and nine. I’ve experienced all the awful hormonal behaviour before but now I have this new thing thrown into the mix. He’ll be somewhere with me in sight then he opens his beak slightly, then flies at my face like a bullet. Then he’ll go on my shoulder and do a funny little series of clicks. I try to calm him... Excuse the bad photos he’s a very active bird lmao Is he just mounting or could it be something else? He’s been acting the same as always and my other bird isn’t losing any feathers. I have been busy with school, so he could be bored but I don’t think it’s that because he has his cage mate and they’re outside of there cage whenever I’m home and not doing something like cooking... Dislocated Toe, Should we be concerned about bruising?

Hi all! Misty bird got her toe stuck in the cage door about 2 weeks ago and was very rough with it until we could get it out. We believe she has dislocated her toe. We took her to the vet and she was prescribed a week on a flat surface, which was followed, as well as meloxicam for her arthritis. There was not much we could do about her toe due to her size. She is now back to things as normal but her foot still looks a little weird. It looks slightly bruised. Misty is very good at hiding... Hi, Brand spankin' new. I joined because I'd like to get a parrotlet and need to know how to care for it. So here I am. I live in the SF Bay area of CA. Lookin for a young blue female (bird) . I was so sure I would find one quickly that IO went out and bought a cage already. "Cart before the Horse" type of thing. I contacted all of the advertisers I found on craigslist with little results. Hoping poining this group will change my luck. Looking forward to learning. Frank ..read more

New baby parrotlet biting a lot!

I just bought a little blue boy baby parrotlet yesterday and he's biting quite aggressively on my hands, fingers and arms. He's about 12 weeks old, hand raised, will step up and sometimes fly to me and come to my hands. He doesn't seem afraid in any way but he starts to bite my fingers and just won't stop. I'm worried putting him back in his cage when he bites might make him think of the cage as a punishment? He's also clicking his beak a lot so I was thinking it's almost like teething? He... Hi everyone, I just got a 9 weeks old baby Parrotlet. His name is Loki. I am having a bit of issue here, he isn’t eating as much. I tried feeding him often and setting it in his small cage with brocoli, kale, blueberry, millets, pellet, seeds, etc. He only nibbles here or there, I figured he’s still trying to adjust to his new home (this is his 3rd day). He’s so sweet, been cuddling and bonding with me frequently… more than eating. Sometimes he get so excited to see me and try his hardest to... Baby Parrotlet feeding question ..read more

So I have the tall Vision M02 cage that I love, but my SweetPea likes to fly. I can't have her out as much as I would like to bc I don't want my dogs to get her (I have a killer unfortunately, it's instinct they say but... if it moves it's his) She flies in circles in her cage and has become quite the professional. I was looking at an A&E cage but I want horizontal bars. I also want to keep it under $200. I love the Kings cages but, no. Suggestions? Anyone have the large vision the want to... Hi all - I've had Louie (or Bird/Chicken/Tickle as I am more likely to call him...) since October. It was definitely a learning process, but I like to imagine that we have the worst behind us. He is still feisty but can be loving and kind when he chooses to be. Unfortunately, I find that I am working longer hours than first anticipated, and he is spending more time in his cage during the day. Do any of you let your birds free fly during that day? He has a nasty habit of chewing on the... Bird-Proof Room ..read more
