Just got a Fire 7 tablet and trying to set up kids profile. In the kids profile, under “manage web content > settings” I have disabled “enable pre-approved web content” but in the kids profile there are still numerous video suggestions and links under the “for you” section. I don’t know how to root, but is rooting what I’m looking for in order to absolutely gut my kindle fire kids tab? All the junk that we remove and disable just pops back up as “download” etc. all I want to do is just display only apps/games etc that we want on there. Not wanting to modify processes or brick it but he is constantly getting into crap we don’t know wtf it is. My two kids and I each have a Fire tablet, same type (Fire HD 10, 11th generation) that we all got around the same time. My kids use theirs in Amazon Kids mode. I am confused as to why there are apps that we have on some tablets that we can’t get on others. For example, my daughter has an app on her Fire called Audio Adventures. She says she never downloaded it, it was just on her tablet one day. I tried a factory reset and then it just seemed to die on me and wouldn't turn on anymore. After charging overnight, holding the power button down for 60 seconds did nothing, holding each of the volume buttons and the power button down for 60 seconds did nothing, and holding both of the volume buttons and the power button down did nothing. Noticed woot.com has 2017 Fire tablets for $16 shipped. I don't need more devices but at that price I'm thinking about what kind of cool things they might be good for. I sort of imagine the answer is "not much" which explains the price. For example can I: create a launch pad for casting all my different streaming apps to various smart TVs/Rokus? use it as a dongle/display connected to a receiver for audio streaming? use it as a local webcam (baby-monitor)? do something with OBDII on a project car? I am using the app on a fire tablet. This is mainly an issue with kids books for, well, my kid. There is no manual way to switch to landscape that I can find.
