Long story short, I moved completely to Canada on April 5th, 2024 and need to register my business with the CRA to start collecting GST.
There's the business registration online thing and the first thing it asks is for your SIN. I enter that and then get this error message: "Error—ERR.210 We cannot proceed with your request".
What's happening here? Does anyone know ..read more

Hello, I filed 2023 taxes on February 29, 2024 and it still shows "In Process" with no target completion date. I called CRA many times and they had no update at all, just asked me to wait indefinitely.
Recently, I called CRA Identity Verification department on 1833-995-2336 and they said my account has been flagged for identity verification (btw, I would have never known this had I not called). So, I submitted the documents they asked more than a week ago and no updates since then.

Hi,
I am relatively new to Canada and wonder about the following: I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at a Canadian university, but I am not employed here because I have a fellowship from abroad. I am associated with the university but I am specifically excluded from any EI / pension contributions / health insurance. The fellowship is considered tax exempt in the originating country (Switzerland). There is a convention between Canada and Switzerland to avoid double taxation. The Swiss organisation I...

Hello!
I lived until a few years ago in the US (not a citizen) and now live in Canada.
I had bought and now rent a condo in the US for which I file US taxes: between costs and required depreciation, the US net income is $0 and don't pay any taxes currently.
In my canadian tax return, depreciation is not included when reporting foreign rental income (as far as I understand, been using HR block premier to help filing), and therefore the net US income is non-zero, for which I need to pay...

We have a house to rent out and will file tax every year of that income. Can our kids still receive Child benefit til we are back to Canada ..read more

Hi, Folks,
I've had a job proposition by a company in the US to work for them as a full time employee. I am a US citizen currently living in Canada as a PR (With citizenship test pending the COVID shenanigans) working for a company here in Montreal. If I take this job in the US and get paid into a US bank account, how does that work from a tax perspective? My last state of residence was New York, but could I choose any state to get paid into, so long as I have a valid mailing address...

So long story short, I wasn’t a good fit for the company and I got fired during my 3 months probation period.
I’m looking for new jobs and will be working soon.
My question is that I was paid in cheques after tax deduction for the time I worked there, so for next year when I do my taxes, do I need to prove this short employment to revenue Canada? Is it possible that I won’t have a T4 for this short period?
Sorry for sounding stupid, I’m just a student that doesn’t really know anything...

Hello folks,
I came to Canada on September 2019 as permanent resident. At that time I remained in Canada for just one month collected my PR card and went back to my home country. While being in Canada I got my sin number and opened a bank account.
After that I returned back to Canada after two years on September 2021 and started working from then onwards.
While filing my first Canadian tax return in the year 2021, by mistake/ignorance I did not mention in that tax return that I became the...
