Hello all, I'm in general search of a laptop, for both gaming and work, but on a budget, ( I know I can probably get PC cheaper, but I travel every couple months, for at least a week or two). Anyway, I found this laptop - https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-G5-1920x1080-i5-12500H-KF-E3US333SH/dp/B0BVRGF3MR which ahs a nice price, while the others with similar or worse specs are more expensive, for instance ( https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Display-GeForce-Windows-FA707NV-ES74/dp/B0C56T56WQ/ref=sr_1_6?sr=8-6  or https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Display-GeForce-i5-12500H-FX707ZC-ES53 ..read more

Need docking station recommendations (180w Power Delivery)

I have a somewhat old Dell Precision 7740 laptop and I would love a docking station not from Dell to use with it. I have the one linked below currently, and they all suck. We use them at work and they have about a 40% failure rate. One thing that seems to happen a lot is the ethernet quits working. Ideally I could find one from another manufacturer that's figured out how to run QC properly and can still supply the 180w or so that this laptop needs to run and charge. As far as I've been able to determine, it's going to require a dual Thunderbolt/USB-C connector and since google is functionally ..read more

I've narrowed down my gaming laptop choice - I'm shopping in the UK for a 14" device - to the Lenovo Legion Slim 5. This model in particular: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/lenovo-legion-slim-5-14.5-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-rtx-4060-1-tb-ssd-10259987.html   Does anyone have any experience with this model? As far as I see it these are the main pros and cons compared with the other portable gaming laptops on the market in the UK:   Pros: OLED Screen Decently powered GPU (TDP 100+25W) Fast RAM Upgradeable storage Cons: Soldered RAM Glossy screen (personal preferen ..read more

Should I purchase new Snapdragon laptop?

MI currently have a M1 MacBook Pro 16 inch. After using it for a little bit, I've simply grown to dislike the macOS interface. I use a windows desktop as my daily driver and use the MacBook to get work done whenever I travel around (albeit not very frequently). Windows just seems so much more efficient to me though its probably because I've been using it every day for years.   I'm thinking about selling the MacBook and getting the Asus Vivobook S 15 with the Snapdragon Elite x processor. Any thoughts/opinions would be very helpful ..read more

Framework Ryzen 5 vs Ryzen 7?

Hello all,   I am going to upgrade my laptop soon (I am daily driving the Thinkpad t480 with 8th gen i5), and the Framework is the perfect one for me, I love tinkering and stuff. I am trying to decide though, with the cost of both in mind, to get the Ryzen 5 or 7. I have never had a Ryzen system, so I don't really know what they all mean, but it has the 7640U and the 7840U respectively. A decent chunk of my work is in the browser, but I also use Adobe programs and various audio programs like Ableton, which need more performance. I've heard that the 7840U has a better GPU than the 7640U? I ..read more

Help choosing a thin and light gaming laptop

I'm looking to upgrade my current gaming laptop. I need to transport my laptop regularly, so size and portability is an important consideration. I am therefore limiting my selection to 14" devices, ideally weighing below 1.8 kg (3.9 lb). My budget is roughly £1500 ($1900 USD) and I am shopping in the UK.   I have narrowed my options down to four - links and comparison table below. I'd really appreciate some advice about which one to go for, or any other recommendations that I may have missed. Thank you!   Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 AMD (GA402NV-N2027W) Razer Blade 14 AMD (RZ09-0482VWH3-R ..read more
