Question about drives in a framework 13

So I’ve decided that my linux college laptop is going to be a 13. I’ll be studying computer science, and gaming, if any on this computer, will be light. The most involved thing I might run would be FFXIV, and I don’t care about graphics settings. This seems perfect for me. I had hoped to have dual drives, a small one for Linux and a larger one for my home directory, though only having one drive is not a dealbreaker. My question is A. If I have separate partitions on the same drive, and had planned on a TB of storage, how big should the linux partition be? I can consider springing for the 2TB ..read more

Hi there, Openning an old MSI GE72 I found the battery is made of regular cell made by LG or samsung. (things like Cellule Samsung INR21700-50S 5000mAh - 35A ). It is possible for example on a Electric scooter from xiaomi to replace the dead cells instead of the complet battery. It would be nice to have some kind of square cells of course to fite inside our FW 13s… 5 posts - 4 participants Read full topic ..read more

I have installed arch Linux with the vulkan-radeon and lib32-vulkan-radeon drivers on my framework laptop 13 AMD and installed KDE however my menu bar has a blue thing under it. I think it might be related to transparency. Their is also an effect when i select reboot in KDE menu. I have tried adding the kernel parameter amdgpu.sg_display=0 and setting the iGPU to gaming mode but that has not fixed it. Above the white is displayed as black on the screen. 1 post - 1 participant Read full topic ..read more

My laptop cuts out. It seems to come right back if I press thumbs on the two sides of the keyboard and press up on the bottom with both hands. Intermittent, but can happen 5-6 times in a row. Any suggestions? 2 posts - 2 participants Read full topic ..read more

[SOLVED] Maybe a bug in the linux AMDGPU driver — request to help diagnostics

Hello, I have a very surprising bug when using webgl under linux (amd13). This snipset reproduces the problem. On most computers, it displays two dots. https://jsfiddle.net/nx9djmtu/1/ (one black, one red). On my computer, it only displays the red one. The problem is the same on Firefox and Chromium. If I switch to software rendering (LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 firefox), then the problem disappears. That’s why I think it’s a problem with the AMDGPU driver. I run archlinux, wayland (sway) and kernel linux 6.9.3.arch1-1 and 6.6.32-1-lts. I will try to git bissect the kernel, but it will need some t ..read more

[RESPONDED] HDMI display limited to 640x480 on AMD Ryzen 7040

Hi, I received the Framework 13 with AMD CPU today, and up until now this is a really nice machine. I can only regret that 4 ports is going to be short and I can’t wait to find dual USB expansion cards. However, I have a problem connecting an external monitor. It seems that the monitor is not properly recognized. When I use the HDMI expansion card I bought with the Framework, it shows the external monitor as DP-2 (or DP-3 or DP-4 depending on the port location) and the only resolution available is 640x480. Running Fedora 40 with KDE Plasma on Wayland. 7 posts - 3 participants Read full topic ..read more

Hey Just started using a 2022 purchase after my MBP decided it didn’t want to connect to the internet anymore, and it’s been fine bar a couple of super-frustrating trackpad/selection issues: Trackpad click sometimes doesn’t respond at all - even with screen button going ‘live’ indicating it’s recognised. Also sometimes, it works without a physical click, selecting/opening things that I didn’t want, when just hovering on or passing over with the cursor - it literally just opened Google Maps in place of this as I moved the cursor over my GM bookmark… Fortunately I culd return to a draft… Som ..read more

[RESPONDED] Any Fix Fingerprint reader on Fedora

I do dual boot windows but don’t use fingerprints with it. When enrolling fingerprints it worked for the first few but I think it allowed me to enrol too many. I’ve tried numerous fixes now and keep getting led back to an app image on these forums that doesn’t run, even after installing a dozen dependencies. It’s ubuntu based and at this stage I’m considering installing ubuntu next weekend, then wiping it again. Has anyone fixed the “Corrupted Message Header Received” error using either fedora or windows. Does anyone know what that app image actually does well enough to provide terminal comman ..read more
