Framework 13, intel 12th gen. running: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS – An exciting new problem I have discovered. Yesterday, seemingly out of the blue the framework internal keyboard and touch pad stopped working. The power button continues to function. and the laptop seems otherwise unaffected. I am typing this on it now actually, with an external keyboard and mouse, both of which work fine. The exact circumstances of the fault are unclear. The laptop was connected to an external keyboard, mouse, and monitor via a dock. I sent it to sleep, disconnected it, and opened it at home. I’m not sure if the keybo ..read more

Linux Mint 22 Fingerprint Reader

I’m running Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon on my Framework 13 at the moment and its worked without issue for the most part with one slight hitch, the screensaver. In every other situation from the main login screen to the console the fingerprint reader works, but on the screensaver its intermittent. If I open the lid once it will ask me for my fingerprint and work flawlessly. The next time I open it there is no option to use my fingerprint, just my password. I’m new to Linux myself, so trying to diagnose this problem which doesn’t seem to be consistent is baffling to me. Any ideas? 1 post - 1 particip ..read more

Laptop does not boot on the latest Arch Linux Kernel

I am on a frame.work laptop (AMD motherboard: AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840U w/ Radeon™ 780M Graphics × 16) with an arch-linux installation done via archinstall-script using systemd-boot. I just updated my Linux kernel to the latest version that Arch offered ( 6.10.1 arch 1-1) and rebooted. Now my system no longer bots when using that particular kernel. The way this looks is that basically after selecting the kernel in the quick menu you see for 3 seconds, the screen is just black and nothing happens, at all. Luckily systemd-boot provides backup kernels, so I’m currently using the last LTS one, where boot ..read more

hi peepz, I am a very happy framework 13 amd user. everything has already been said about what makes the laptop great. I bought the amd version mainly for the igpu and I am very happy with the performance. however, I keep looking around the egpu market and wondering if there will be an egpu case for the fw 16 graphics module from framework/coolermaster in the near future? background: I can play graphically demanding games like rdr2, fo4, cyberpunk with the fw 13 and igpu (radeon 780m) with low mid settings and reasonably acceptable frames. older or less graphically demanding games are even bet ..read more

Hi everyone, I’m not sure if this is a Framework issue or an Ubuntu issue but I thought I’d post here first as I never had this problem on my previous laptop. Hoping someone might be able to help. FW13 13th Gen i5 DIY edition. I installed Ubuntu 24.04 onto the Lexar NM790 4TB SSD (with heatsink removed) and everything seemed to go smoothly. Running Gnome v46 using X11 (more on that later). I use both the built-in screen of the laptop (set at 2256x1504) and a 34" LG widescreen monitor (set at 2560x1080). I use the monitor as the primary display and the laptop sits off to the side. I’ve connecte ..read more

LUKS2 encrypted boot on Fedora - how to set up correctly?

Hi all, I’m in the process of setting up current Fedora with LUKS2 encrypted boot and root partition on my Framework 13 AMD. But I always end up with the problem when entering the second passphrase (for the root partition) it doesn’t accept the (correct) passphrase anymore and I’m stuck on the GRUB emergency console (GRUB version 2.06). Though, after the initial setup of the encrypted root partition (“/” and “/home”) with the official Anaconda installer everything works fine. But when I apply this unofficial guide to also encrypt the boot partition (see below) it doesn’t accept the passphrase ..read more

Backlit Keys Flicker When Laptop Goes to Sleep (FW13 Intel 13th Gen, up-to-date BIOS and drivers)

I have a fairly recent (four month old) FW 13 Intel 13th Gen i5 running both Win 11 and Debian 12, and I usually have the backlight keys lit at the lowest setting. When the laptop goes to sleep, i.e. has been unattended for 15 minutes, screen has been off, and the OS puts the laptop in sleep mode (Win or Linux) the keys will flash for about 30-50 seconds before calming down and turning off. Framework 13 11th Gen Intel Core BIOS update issue

Hi! I’m finally updating my BIOS to the latest version but getting an error. Here’s what I’m doing: I downloaded the files [here] (Framework Laptop BIOS and Driver Releases (11th Gen Intel® Core™)) to a USB then unmount and reboot from the USB by pressing F12. I select the USB option from the menu. It starts to run the setup script but very quickly crashes with this message: “Security issue on line 1” …(or 11 - can’t recall). I type “exit” to get out of the terminal and reboot my machine and go to the internet for help. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Another possibly relevant informati ..read more
