I have been blacksmithing for 2 years now I started when I was 12 with a very small and handmade forge I would like to get into making Damascus I have the know-how of how to make it I just need a more efficient way of doing it. Given my age (14 years old btw) I don’t have loads of money but I do have a bit so what do you recommend

Old ribbon burner. Found in the barn yard years ago and was to cool to scrap. Now getting into a lil blacksmithing. It finally clicked as to what it is. Just wondered if anyone knew anything more about it. Measurements are in the pics and you will see a B cast in it. Any ideas?

Hey guys, was hoping maybe someone on here might be able to help me Divine some of the specifics of who created this Vice and roughly when? Through my own research I would guess sometime around early 1900s and I think it was by that German company that was eventually bought out by Colombian but I’m not entirely sure. I have a 1959 Harley gas tank that has a bullet hole through it . in, and out . A 30 caliper bullet went through it .
I’m thinking of welding it up with oxyacetylene, and mild steel rod . Years ago I was a second year apprentice and still remember filing a hole in by building up the inner edge . This gas tank is quite heavy and I have a fine tip I can use …
Can anyone give me advise on this ? What alternatives could I do? I only have the gas welding equipment . I asked at a shop once and they quoted me $500 , maybe just to get rid of me. I’m sure I can repair it myself …

New member here from the great state of Tennessee! I’ve been in industrial maintenance for the last 20+ years, so I’m no stranger to working with metal. However, most of my experience lies in welding, cutting, grinding, fabricating, etc… I’ve always wanted to get into blacksmithing, as a hobby, but just haven’t done so until now. I’m now in the process of gathering up some of the necessary tools and equipment. (that I don’t already have) Next, I’ll be trying to carve out a suitable place to do some forging here at the house. I have a decent shop, but I was thinking about adding on to make a sp ..read more

The jaws do not line up when the vise is fully closed. Trying to determine if some adjustment will bring them back into line with one another.
