On 18th March 2024, the Early Day Motion in the image below was read out in the Houses of Parliament acknowledging the longevity of the Miniature Railway in its 75th year, being the oldest miniature railway in Scotland , It also acknowledges the 3 longest serving volunteers each with over 40 years service to railway. Because …… This Easter Saturday (tomorrow) is when our new running season starts We are hoping for some reasonable weather to allow us to run the trains We did our final testing on Thursday morning with Strathaven Castle pulling our carriages around the track and testing points and cross over before the weekend. Volunteers in the park on Monday, painting all our carriages. Don’t they all look smart ? All ready for the new season starting TWELVE days from now. We also employed a Brickie to replace all the bricks in our turntable as they had deteriorated over many years. Earlier this week, with only 22 days before the new season commences, both Margaret (the original Wee Train locomotive) and her steam counterpart Eva were put through their annual steam test before the new season starts. Both locomotives passed with flying colours and had minor servicing completed at this time. At the same time as this testing was being completed all the carriages were checked over and the paint work rubbed down ready for repainting before the season starts. Additional running days this weekend – Saturday, 14th and Sunday 15th October – both days from 11:00 to 16:30 It looks like the sun will be out but with a cold wind Depending on the volunteers available, we will try to also run the following Saturday, 21st October. Today is the last official running day for 2023, Saturday the 30th of September. We wish to thank all our supporters old and new who have been out at the park during the season. Strathaven Balloon Festival 2023 Scotland’s only Balloon Festival will be held in Strathaven park over three days of the coming weekend – evening of the 25th and two full days of activities the 26/27th of August. The Miniature Railway will operate over the three days of the Balloon Festival (weather permitting). With additional volunteers in place we can now open earlier on Friday afternoon Friday from 3pm till 8.30 pm Saturday from 9.30 am till 9.00 pm Sunday 10am though to 8.00 pm. Scotland’s largest Balloon Festival will be held in Strathaven park over three days, the evening of Friday 25th and two full days of activities on Sat 26th/ Sun 27th of August. Additional Running Day this week We will be operating the railway on :- Thursday the 20th from 11:00 am to 16.30 pm. We have a large group of youngsters 6-14 years old (60+) arriving from Ayrshire visiting the park for their annual visit and they cannot come to Strathaven park without a ride on the trains in the park .
