Noob question about shooting doubles....

Sorry for the noob question, but wanted everyone's insight as to how best to shoot doubles with a red dot...    I look at the target and bring the red dot onto target, then I fire off the first round.    Question for the second round, do most of you reaquire the target with the dot visually before firing off the 2nd round?  Or are you suppose to fire the second round off without visually confirming dot on target (just relying/trusting on your grip and return to zero)?  ..read more

Questions for past and present hammer fired Production /CO shooters

Recently read a discussion about this.   For those of you who shoot or shot Production / CO with hammer fired guns...   Do or did you notice the first DA shot from the holster?   If you did notice it, how did you go about getting past that first DA shot, and getting rounds on target for the second SA shot?   What training did you do to minimize the difference in trigger pull between the first and second shot?   I don't think I've ever noticed the difference, so I can't objectively comment. I just never seemed to pay attention to that first shot, just put the sites on t ..read more

Small spot focused. Losing accuracy, disappointed.

So I feel as though I am shooting target focused 80% of the time or more. I drift on and off the dot on harder shots. Recently ive been working on small spot focused. Look at a small spot on the target and when the dot comes into view fire the round.  Im struggling since I started ‘trying’ to focus on a small spot it’s really eating up a lot of my focus and is actually causing me to be less accurate. I kind of feel like I am point shooting. Ive also had some trouble calling the shots because I usually call my shots based off of feel.    Its likely that I am sometimes point shoot ..read more

What’s your grip revelation?

Mine was when I tried out the wave grip described by modern samurai (scott Jalinski).  Up-over-through    It’s like 80-90% support hand doing the work. Leaving your strong hand to relax and work the trigger.      ..read more

Loading mags to capacity

I currently shoot IPSC Production, so there are no restrictions on magazine size, just how many you can have loaded. I'll be getting a Standard (ie. Limited) gun soon so wanted some advice on whether people load their magazines to full capacity. A fully loaded magazine is usually harder to seat on a closed slide, so do people get around this by down-loading the mag by a round ..read more

If given a choice with target position when shooting strong hand or weak hand is it better to shoot targets out to in, such as right hand shoot right to left and left hand shoot targets left to right. Or does it really matter ..read more

How Much Finger Pressure on 1911 Thumb Safety??

After years of shooting striker-fired pistols I just bought an MPA DS9 pistol and shot it for the first time yesterday. I had previously read that people use the thumb safety to help mitigate muzzle flip. When I was shooting, I sometimes (not frequently) pulled shots low and to the right(I know RH shooters will pull shots low left). I'm pretty certain it was not due to pushing the trigger since that never really ever happened to me with my other guns and this pistol has a great trigger. So, I'm wondering if I was pushing too hard on the thumb safety with my (left) firing hand thumb and thereby ..read more

Does anyone have a good drill(s) to improve accuracy at higher speeds? These could be either live fire or dry fire drills. One of the big things holding me back in USPSA is the ability to collect alpha on difficult target without taking forever. Thanks in advance for the responses ..read more

Issue with weak hand grip

Over the last few years, for some unknown reason, I've started having issues with my weak hand grip during multishot shooting.  If I don't think about it, I will loosen my grip during a stage and start to have 5 0'clock hits as opposed to where I was aiming.  This wasn't a thing back in my Infinity days with 1.5# triggers, but it's a real problem now.  I've finally started a fairly consistent dry fire program again, for the first time in 10 years, so maybe this will help get me lines out.  If I "think" about it, it's hard to shoot out of my sub-conscience like we prefer. &n ..read more

Stance

I was trained to shoot in an isosceles stance, using both hands, crouching down slightly. But over time I became more comfortable leaning slightly sideways, tucking my left elbow into my chest and mounting my right hand on top of my left. This not only steadies my hand but it helps to avoid getting clipped on the thumb when using an auto, which happened to me alot when I first began shooting and I would clutch the barrel with both of my rather large hands. I know that the 'right' way is the way that's most comfortable, but, off the record, is this a goofy way to shoot? Any particular liability ..read more
