SVR volunteer Peter Darkin has owned this classic Morris Minor 1000 for 40 years. Marking Kidderminster Town station’s 40th anniversary on July 27 and 28 will be an extra cause for celebration for one of the Severn Valley Railway’s volunteers. Peter Darkin will be exhibiting his beloved Morris Minor car outside the station during the commemorative weekend, and the story behind his association with this vehicle goes all the way back to when the station opened in 1984. A gala day is being held by the Somerset & Dorset Railway to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of Midsomer Norton station. It was on July 20, 1874, that Midsomer Norton was opened as part of the Bath extension of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway. The extension, from Evercreech, was built in a mere two years – remarkably quick for the time considering the steeply-graded profile and the need for 11 viaducts and four tunnels. Flying Scotsman returns to Locomotion for summer festival

60103 Flying Scotsman was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and was built in 1923. This was the first Steam Locomotive in the UK to reach 100mph. In 2023 Flying Scotsman is celebrating its centenary. Day of Dance at Arley station on the SVR. MARTIN BANNISTER The Severn Valley Railway is hosting a mini-festival of traditional British dance performances on Saturday, July 20. Six dance groups are travelling the line to entertain passengers at stops along the route.
