A steam engine restoration enthusiast has been awarded a British Empire Medal for his service to steam and heritage railways after buying and restoring 11 engines with his own money. Credit: Peter Best Peter Best said that seeing young people on one of his trains gives him “huge pleasure and pride”, despite the financial cost. Mr Best is a former chairman of North Yorkshire Moors Railway and has been involved in the restoration of British canals, including the recent successful Lottery Fund application on behalf of the Cotswold Canals. A BR Western Region tender locomotive which normally operates in the Cotswolds is due to star in a gala at an Oxfordshire heritage line in September. CP&RR ‘Manor’ 4-6-0 No. 7820 Dinmore Manor is set to make its debut on the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway (C&PRR) during the line’s September 13-15 steam gala. Locomotive No. 37418 ‘An Comunn Gaidhealach’ will replace Deltic ‘Alycidon’ at the NYMR Diesel Gala, it has been announced. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) has announced that No. 37418 ‘An Comunn Gaidhealach’ will be a guest locomotive during the Diesel Gala from 14th to 16th June 2024. ​Visiting courtesy of Loram and Steven Beniston, this will be the first chance for passengers to ride behind No. 37418 in its Loram red and white livery. The new government has been elected. There were many votes for Imran Khan (his PTI supporters won 101 of 266 seats), but the new government now appears to be a coalition of the economically liberal, conservative Pakistan Muslim League N (75 seats) and the Pakistan People’s Party (54 seats).
