The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) published its accident investigation report on the Norfolk Southern Railway train derailment that occurred in East Palestine, Ohio, on February 3, 2023. The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending July 13, 2024. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 483,806 carloads and intermodal units, up 1.3 percent compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending July 13 were 215,400 carloads, down 4.3 percent compared with the same week in 2023, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 268,406 containers and trailers, up 6.3 percent compared to 2023.
