Speaking of long sleeps, it’s time for the podcast to rest. I need a long sleep right now to be honest. I caught a cold a day after recording this and my brain is in so much pain right now it’s insane. About ready to pass out right now but I’m waiting for the episode to upload. The things I do for the fans. It’s The Long Sleep, written by David Tomblin and aired on August 7, 1971. Show-notes: 1:35: Check out our longest-running podcast, Trust Your Doctor: A Doctor Who Podcast. 2:15: Check out our most middling podcast, Triple Play: A Movie Trilogy Podcast. 8:30: Cyril Schaps was an actor with ..read more

UFO 25: The Responsibility Seat

You could argue that I (Dylan) have the responsibility seat, since I edit these shows every week. I actually recently adjusted my chair and have massively improved my seating arrangement. My arms can rest a little more naturally on the table now, instead of feeling like they’re at my shoulders all the time. It’s so much easier to type and just do things in general at my desk. It’s The Responsibility Seat, written by Tony Barwick and aired on July 31, 1971. Show-notes: 19:45: We’re about to talk about Ayshea pretty extensively, so I’ll just preemptively link her Wikipedia page, as well as the w ..read more

The past few days I’ve spent a lot of time contemplating life, staring at my reflection. I used to have a fish pond at my parents house. It was filled with Koi. They used to stay pretty small since it was a small pond, and they’d eat the algae at the bottom. Sadly most of them are dead now, because of a stork that kept coming through and eating them. It’s Reflections in the Water, written by David Tomblin and aired on July 24, 1971. Show-notes:9:43: This little piece of trivia comes directly from the Gerry Anderson wiki page on Reflections in the Water. 19:00: The fact that this is the last ep ..read more

UFO 23: Sound of Silence

The real sound of silence is how crappy Kiyan’s audio is this week. Something something I could make a song reference here but it just seems too easy so why would I do that? Instead I’m just going to ramble at length about literally nothing. Just kidding, I won’t do that. Instead I’ll just end this description here. It’s The Sound of Silence written by David Lane and Bob Bell and aired on July 17, 1971. Show-notes: 14:10: Based on these pictures of collies, it probably was a collie. 19:59: For more on Blake’s 7, check out our Blake’s 7 podcast, Zenith: A Blake’s 7 Podcast. 21:12: The Box of De ..read more

UFO 22: Confetti Check A-OK

The More Things Change, The More They Come in Clutch. When I have parties at the airport they always make me do a confetti check when I leave. It’s required! I have to go through the metal detector, then the wand, then an x-ray machine, then an air blower, then a magnet… look it’s a whole process to get all the confetti out. Don’t even ask why it’s necessary because I don’t know. It’s Confetti Check A-OK written by Tony Barwick and aired on July 10, 1971. Show-notes:25:23: Don’t worry the Gerry Anderson wiki is here with everything you want to know (and more) about Henderson. 30:31: Why do we ..read more

UFO 21: Computer-Affair

I had an affair with a computer once. (Editor’s note: Her (2013)) It was a long time ago. Back when computers were curvy and that was attractive. She was a big hulking room sized machine. A Cray-1. Man the curves on that thing. Just knew how to turn me on in all the right ways. It’s Computer Affair written by Tony Barwick and aired on April 28, 1971. Show-notes: 0:12: My (Dylan’s) voice sounds like I lost my bass frequencies this week (Editor’s note: sounds the same to me). I think it’s because of the box fan I had running (see show-note at 7:48). We used to do test recordings, remember when w ..read more

I’m an expert on Court Martials. Look I was just kidding with that by-line. I don’t know anything about court martials actually, all I know is that they’re basically just military trials. I have as little contact with the military as possible in all honesty, although… nah I won’t say anything more. It’s Court Martial, written by Tony Barwick and aired on April 21, 1971. Show-notes: 0:44: Ron Appleton Knives, definitely illegal where we are. These are some pretty sick knives actually. Some ill blades, you might say. 5:47 I don’t know who’s buying all this UFO merch, but here it is anyway, at sh ..read more

Recording this episode was an Ordeal. I’ve survived loads of ordeals though. This one was pretty trivial compared to some of the ordeals I’ve been through in my life. There was that time I got held up at a red light when I really needed to pee. Now that was what I call a true ordeal. It’s Ordeal, written by Tony Barwick and aired on April 14, 1971. Show-notes: 6:11: For “once” we’re trusting Wikipedia over all other sources for this information. 9:18: Apple was the Beatles’ record company. The Beatles were notoriously protective of their image, so it was difficult to license music from them fo ..read more

Is there a spacelash? Timelash, spacelash, temporallash, they’re all the same thing. It’s just a time corridor that links you to the future. Or the past. And you have to jump into it and travel through time and… I don’t know where I’m going with this, it’s 10:30 at night and I only just remembered I needed to edit the episode and quite frankly I’m already half asleep so cut me some slack. It’s Timelash, written by Terence Feely and aired on February 17, 1971. Show-notes: 0:39: It took Steven all of 39 seconds (10 of which were the intro music) to reference the Doctor Who episode Timelash. 1:55 ..read more

I had an affair with a Dalek once. No, I swear, I did! He was very loving. He treated me nicely and would always hunt down anybody who ever hurt me. If somebody said something mean to me he would exterminate them. If somebody got in my way he would destroy them. And if I did anything wrong he’d…. It’s The Dalotek Affair, written by Ruric Powell and aired on February 10, 1971.
