Trying to get this look shooting wide and close ups of 8 people in a studio. I have 2* Aputure 120d and 2* Nova p600c available with 2* 8x8 and 4by frames. I still have the option to modify equipment but it’s a small budget. They’re all going to be seated and facing the camera like the 3 girls in the middle ..read more

Could someone tell me what the industry standard ring light is?

If there is one that is. I'm guessing there isn't and most of the time when that quality of light is needed it's just constructed out of a couple of smaller lights like literibbons or asteras but I want to know if there's an industry equivalent of those ring lights mountable on the lens itself so if there is, let me know ..read more

Lighting for B&W Digital

Hello, I am a student in a cinematography class. For my final project, I am shooting on a Canon C70 in B&W. I am only beginning to learn about lighting, and am somewhat familiar with what it takes to light for black and white analog film, but what about digital? Is there a difference between lighting for B&W analog and B&W digital? What should I take into consideration when shooting in B&W digital ..read more

Euphoria - Texture in the bokeh

Hey guys, I'm in the process of filming a project in Germany and would like to follow the camera work of Euphoria S1, with lots of emotional lighting. I only have an Alexa Mini, so the depth of field will probably be quite different as they used an Alexa 65 with a very fast T1.6 lens. Anyway, I just realized a really great pattern or texture in the bokeh and I'm pretty sure it's NOT the light source itself. So maybe it's some kind of filter? Do you guys now, how to archive this nice effect?  ..read more

Hi all. I'm looking for advice to create a shot like this reference in a studio as part of a short moving image sequence. Has anyone got any previous experience they would be willing to share? Any relevant thoughts, information would be very welcome. Thanks! https://www.stocksy.com/2437493/woman-portrait-distorted-by-the-ripples-in-the-water ..read more

Simulating the eclipse

Hey all! I have a movie coming up in which I need to simulate a total solar eclipse.  The scope loosely involves the following: two types of shot-  One camp which embodies the light gag of the sun slowly being eclipsed- and the very specific quality of light and shifting of light that this brings. and one camp which embodies the sun in total eclipse.   I have a feeling that these are my two camps as technically they probably will need to be tackled in different ways. within these camps, some of the shot ideas are: - Mediums and closeup work on talent watching. - wides of roofto ..read more

SEKONIC 858D-U VS SPECTRA CINE IV SENSITIVITY

I'll first ask a question: Is the Sekonic 858D-U more sensitive, equally sensitive, or less sensitive to the Spectra Cine IV? Metering in Lux or Foot-candles the 858D-U seems to round the numbers much more. Sometimes it'll round by 50 or 100lux whereas the Spectra Cine has much more decimal information. What the hell? Is there a setting I need to change on the Sekonic? I've gone through the menus many times and have read the manual and can't find anything. It's supposedly more sensitive according to the specs on B&H. Is this marketing crap?   There's some things I love about ..read more

Sekonic Disassembly

Hey Folks! I’m wondering if any of you have had experience disassembling the L-608 combo meter? I’m dealing with a foggy inner prism/optical flat (I'm guessing here) and wondering if it can be cleaned.  I’ve already reached out to Sekonic directly and they told me this meter isn’t serviced by them anymore… I know WTF. If there are any 3rd party service options in the Los Angeles area i’d love any recces. Thank you ..read more

From false-colors to light meter - What's a good start?

Hello, I love to expose with false colors but consistency in light ratios is what I'm looking for in my shots and the ability to replicate shots from other DPs I love would be easier by measuring and actually feeling what I'm doing which then could help me develop an eye when using false colors only. Would a classic Sekonic Flashmate L-308X be a good start to create key to fill and key to bg light ratios ..read more

Warm day interior - How to achieve this look?

Hello, I have a question about the color temperature of lights and the white balance to achieve the look on this particular scene. Here's what I think, is it correct? White Balance: 6000K Key light for the students is created by bouncing a 4K HMI off unbleached muslin to achieve a soft effect. The backlight on the students and the light on the teacher: I'm uncertain whether it's a tungsten or an HMI (that is warmer due to the white balance setting) Room tone from inside using a Litemat 4: around what WB? https://ibb.co/Cnhpffw ..read more
