Need NorCal body shop/welder recommendations for floor pan replacement

Hello!     Does anyone have a recommendation for a good welder/shop that can replace my floorpans?  I've called a few, and I seem to be running into a lot of "we're booked for at least a year out" and "we don't do that level of work anymore" responses. I'm hesitant to go to just any shop that says "yeah, bring it by, we can do it" without any sort of visibility into what they've done in the past - don't want my new (to me) car to be ruined because someone was afraid to say they didn't know how to do it the right way.     I'm in the north bay, but I can tow to ..read more

Hello everyone.  Im in the middle of adding a turbo to my 1984 Maxima Wagon. Im using the stock manifold and turbo and I bought the stock DP thinking I had read it would fit. Well it does not. It hits my steering shaft. No big deal, Ill just make a DP.  Does anybody have the drawing for the flange?  I know its different then other T3's  15 years ago or so there was a group buy on cnc laser/plasma cut stainless steel flanges which I had one but then sold. So I'm assuming the drawing is out there.  I can draw it up but if someone has it I can send it to my friend and hav ..read more

Welding Roll Bar to Roof
HybridZ » Fabrication / Welding

Hi Folks, when I welded a 4 point roll bar into my 240z I tried to get the top and back of the roll hoop as close to the roof support as I could to give me the most room for seats and helmets. Unfortunately, on the passenger's side its a bit too close, and as the chassis flexes the roof support bangs into the roll hoop making a really annoying sound. I've been thinking of just welding the roof support straight to the roll hoop as a way of preventing this and stiffening the chassis, but I'm worried about this causing issues with flexing the joints in the roof (specifically the joint at the top ..read more

Rolled my Z not sure if it's repairable

I rolled my Z a few months ago and the roof is caved in. I have a line on a replacement roof but I have no idea if replacing it would compromise the structural integrity of the chassis. I was wondering if it was worth it to try and repair it or if I'm better off just finding a new chassis. The car has a lot of sentimental value to me and I'd like to avoid replacing it if I can ..read more

Plate and tube thickness guidance

Going to start chassis stiffening and would like guidance on tube and plate thickness.     My main cage will be DOM 1.75"x0.095".  I hope to be under 2800 lbs. but figured better safe than sorry.  What is minimum plate thickness for boxes that support main bar and forward a-pillar bar?  I believe 2020 SCCA rules say between 0.080" and 0.25".   Tube size and thickness for anything other than cage, DOM 1.5"x0.065"?   And thickness for the additional chassis support plates for stiffening tube?.  Some areas I am considering are from radius arm ..read more

Would this affect my swap at all or will it still be the same measurements ..read more

I have two Z's a 72 with bad rot and a 78 really great shape that someone started a convertible with. I just wondered if It would be worth the effort to weld the roof from one to the other and are they the same? Thanks.             ..read more

Protecting inside of frame rails

I’m at the stage where I’m about to install bad dog rails and sfc’s on my 280z for stiffening purposes (original rails are fine). I’ve read every thread on the subject I can find but have found some conflicting info. I know the replacement rails can be installed over the existing ones, my question is does this create a potential trap for corrosion? Also when leaving the originals in place does it make more sense to drill drain holes in the new rails or try and make the whole thing airtight with seam sealer after welding?   My tentative plan: 1. Blow out and shoot internal frame sealer in ..read more

Cannon intake and msa headers flange differences

I’m running the triple dcoe cannon intake with a MSA header. The intake manifold and the exhaust header are sharing the same stud along with the same washer. There is a difference of about .2000” between them. I bought stepped washers from zcar depot but they aren’t deep enough. Anyone with the same setup, what did you use that was thick enough to grind down?    thanks ..read more

Shaved roll pan, couple of questions

I am going bumperless in the rear and am shaving the roll pan on my 280z.  I know the large holes can be filled in with sheet metal and welded.  What about the recessed areas and threaded holes?  See picture.     For area 1, what have people done?   I was thinking of getting set screws in the threaded holes and welding closed.  But what about the large recess?  I really don't want to fill it in with Bondo.  Maybe just fill in the threaded holes and leave the area recessed?   Same questions for area 2.   Pictures would be really n ..read more
