The world lost a great soul on August 30, 2023. John Biethan, our friend, colleague and podcast expert passed away unexpectedly. The loss of his presence will be deeply felt by a vast number of people across the country. John touched many more lives than he, or anyone else, probably realized. John made people feel incredibly special in the most genuine way. He fiercely advocated for those he trusted and admired. Aside from my close family and friends, I always thought of John as my biggest cheerleader, and I've heard others share the same. John dedicated his work to helping people tell their ..read more

Recently, I listened to this podcast episode, by Leah Neaderthal, where she acknowledges that there’s no silver bullet to getting clients (I preach the same!) but having a good "Painkiller Statem ..read more

Why You Need to Relentlessly Prioritize Customer Service

How easily can you recall an instance of extremely positive customer service that you received? What about a negative experience? It seems easier to remember the bad interactions than the good, so I wanted to share a positive story. And I had an entire post written about the wonderful, proactive customer service I recently received from the Apple Store. Aaaaaand....then they dropped the ball. Everything was going smoothly with the repair of my MacBook pro - the Genius Bar employee was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, the laptop was fixed and shipped back to the store faster than expected ..read more

Women solopreneurs are no strangers to being alone - in the trenches, in their home offices, in their own heads. If you're new to the world of being your own boss, you may still have some time before you're "used to" the aloneness. But chances are you feel it to some degree no matter what stage of business you're in. And while you will have a lot of alone time on your hands, it's important to remember that you don't have to *feel* alone. When you're a one woman show, most of your friends likely work a "typical" job - meaning they're not self-employed. They get a regular paycheck, report to a ..read more

Instead of choosing priorities and initiatives that you *think* will propel your solopreneur business forward, take time to analyze before coming up with a plan. This approach is more methodical and strategic. Making informed decisions rooted in data sets you up for success by creating efficiency, and giving you a concrete way to measure results. Digging in to understand an area of your business, like your website, is a more strategic way to figure out where you are now and where you want (or need ..read more

A lot of mompreneurs and women entrepreneurs will admit that negative self talk is a real challenge, probably even more so when you're first starting out but it can definitely resurface at almost any point in your self-employed career. Obstacles like imposter syndrome, unsupportive family and friends, and rejection from prospective clients can pose real risks to your self-confidence, mental health and your ability to be successful in business.
