We have a cupboard full of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and I suspect many are not necessary. They are mainly used for A level chemistry. I could monitor how often they are used over a period of a few years but wondered whether anyone had a list of what they think is necessary. I don't mind keeping relatively safe compounds, but if it is hazardous and not being used then I would rather ditch it. Thanks for any suggestions.

It looks like we will be moving from AQA for GCSE to Edexcel iGCSE. Just wondered what your thoughts about it from a practical point of view are if you are already doing it. Positive and negative welcome. I need to do some research but just reaching out on here as I know I'll get real perspectives from a technician's point of view ..read more

Hello,
We've got a primary school coming in and the teacher just suggested using stethoscopes with them and then the other tech said, 'well then we have to sterilise them in between each child.'
Am I being gross that I think that's a bit unnecessary ..read more

Hello,
We are a school in the South East - Uckfield to be precise. We moved into a new building a few years ago and as a science department, had new gratnell shelving and trays given as part of the build. There was an excess of trays that we put into storage that we would now like to sell-off cheaply. We are offering them at £1 each and a minimum of x25 in an order.
I have been instructed that they will need to be collected and paid for with BACS payment through our finance team via an...

Another hive mind question.
Now, I wanted to change the flush handle on my loo. Loooking very old.
BUT, inside the cistern the screws & handle etc are rusted to b*ggery.
I've tried snapping the screw with some big 'snips' but it's not happening.
I don't want to dismantle whole thing as I know that I'd bust something & have to start again with new.
Do you reckon emptying cistern , then soaking cloth in oxalic acid & wrapping around that whole bit would work ..read more
