Hello All! I'm brand-new to the forum, and looking forward to participating.  For my first post, I have a radio that I picked up for a few bucks at a local flea market. It is branded as "Emerson Radio and Phonograph Corporation, and the model tag on the bottom of the chassis reads "Model 556 Series B", rated at 105-125 Volts AC/DC, with a 35-watt draw. The front of the chassis has four controls: Volume, tone, a rotary switch labeled AM-FM which turns the power on but has only on and off ..read more

Hello I have a Crosley 134-1 grandfather clock radio. 1932 I was going through it only to find the capacitor that's on the output "center tap" of the volume control was just floating there.  The soldered end on the center tap was broken and the other end wasn't attached to anything. The closest solder point is a ground lug. I looked at the schematic to find looks to be to ground but that doesn't make sense. Then following the schematic it seems to go to a variable ..read more

Hey All, New to this forum and was hoping someone could help me out.  I am replacing the electrolytic capacitors in a Philco E676 radio and I can't find a replacement for the 3 section can-style capacitor.   It's capacitance is 80uf/150vDC.   I have never seen 3 section capacitors, does anyone know where I can buy a replacement or a substitute? Attached are photos of it.   Thank you all ..read more

Shorts in Tubes and CRT's

If you have a short and can determine the shorted elements there are a couple of possible ways to "maybe" fix the tube.  You can try to see the shorted elements, and carefully "rap" the tube in the opposite direction of the short. This can sometimes bent the internal support rods enough to clear the short.  I DO NOT recommend this on CRT's. Way too dangerous. I have used a charged electrolytic capacitor of 80-250 MFD charged up to 300-450 volts across the shorted elements ..read more
