I remember once somebody telling me to get off there channel on PMR446 because it was there private emergency channel then continued talk about one of there radios going missing... Some people have no idea at all, PMR446 is not private and open too all. Maybe if people were better educated these days there might be more people getting into radio. PMR446 is also a good resource to bring people into the Ham radio hobby who would otherwise not know that such hobbies exist. There are plenty of people out there who like to play about with PMR sets and get fascinated by what they can do on UHF. As ..read more

I've not looked into D-Star if its anything like DMR then two meters analog is a lot more active even with a range of 4 miles on 20 watts I can still make contacts. Also I can make contact with the strongest stations that are at high elevation within about 12 miles but otherwise it be 4 miles to make contact with somebody who has an average setup. Even with the antenna out of the window, range doesn't increase because of the huge trees in the way of the signal path plus lots of buildings around which severely effects VHF/UHF My UHF range is even worse around 2 to 3 miles but its enough to acce ..read more

I suspect it is more ignorance. With the cost of a replacement hydraulic ram being at least ten grand, £75 for five years is pocket money. The fine for dropping something on a persons head vs £75? The trouble is that they think a radio is a radio. Statistics: Posted by paulears — 16 Sep 2024, 05:45 ..read more

In 1981 i designed a scanner and channel extender for CB radio and an FM module, for many years it was itching to do it again with modern technology, recently a friend gave me a beat up super panther and i made some new designs. Video is on youtube iframe I released the designs, schematics, gerber files, instructions, source code on my github pages.... https://github.com/Jay-esp/CB-radio-Cyb ... controller https://github.com/Jay-esp/CB-radio-Cyb ... -modulator standard disclaimer: use at your own risk, it might not be legal to modify your radio but hey thats part of the fun, not for beginne ..read more

Sorry guys and gals I don't always follow this forum as my Scan125 support is by my website for logistical and time considerations. There are two drivers for the UBC125XTL. For Win 7 and before there is one and for Win8/10/11 there is the Uniden Universal Driver. Both are available on my website. My Scan125 User Manual give details on both program and driver installation. Statistics: Posted by scan125 — 15 Sep 2024, 20:56 ..read more

My goal would be trying to get something above the roof line on a telescopic pole out of the window into free space to radiate then I can run 300 watts to get me about 30 watts worth of signal out past obstructions like trees and buildings but if I still can't hear anything then it be pointless running power. The noise is coming from the communal TV antennas. If that were to then be the case then the only of getting around that is going 100 foot up to get away the noise and things would get very whippy up there... I know some HF radios have noise reducing technology built into them... maybe t ..read more

The skip people operate on the same channel. The thing is now days people don't want to pay for PMR licenses so they use cheap 5watt hand helds programmed to 446. Statistics: Posted by Agent 48 — 15 Sep 2024, 12:49 ..read more

The entire point of our PMR446 and the similar systems in the US was for local handheld, low power chat for shoe shops and restaurants or boys scouts, or things like old folks homes or just kids messing around. Virtually every longer range need is licensable. Local, district and up to national. CB in the allocated bands gets a bit more power and antenna, and if you spend a few hours you can become a ham with much greater power still. The folk who took over PMR446 for contact with strangers want another system, thats not available, but the authorities dont have to worry about. I just dont unde ..read more
