Thanks for the memory. Yes, I remember the old KGAR 1550 with 1KW daytimer. The signal was lost before local sunset in the 60s with KKHI 1550 SF taking over the freq. I think I have a KGAR chart (or two) somewhere packed away.I used to collect them. Radio was very interesting in the Portland area in the late 60s/early 70s. KVAN-1480 was another interesting station. KGAR was indeed across Burnside (10th) from KISN for a short time. I have a photo of the building with the KGAR calls. KGAR was across Burnside from KISN for a short time in the ’60s. KKEY had an office and later Talk studio on 13th and Stark/Burnside after increasing power in 1968 until after Ralph Weagant died in 1987. There was some discussion so it was probably 1988 before closing the Portland location and moving the studios and offices to the transmitter site in Vancouver ..read more
