I had to go back nearly four years to find a K-Love thread but thought this was interesting, if not really important to the general public: Educational Media Foundation(EMF)is changing its name to K-Love Inc ..read more

Thanks for the memory. Yes, I remember the old KGAR 1550 with 1KW daytimer. The signal was lost before local sunset in the 60s with KKHI 1550 SF taking over the freq. I think I have a KGAR chart (or two) somewhere packed away.I used to collect them. Radio was very interesting in the Portland area in the late 60s/early 70s. KVAN-1480 was another interesting station.
KGAR was indeed across Burnside (10th) from KISN for a short time. I have a photo of the building with the KGAR calls. In 50-55 years, radio has sure changed. I remember for years the highest freq a Portland FM had was KOIN 101.1. T ..read more

<<Is this AM really worth that kind of money ?>>
If the business is profitable, yes. If the business is not profitable, it would depend on gross billing, equipment on hand and goodwill within the market. Otherwise, no.
I thought KFIR identifies as an Albany station ..read more

I forgot about KGAR being directly across from KISN and KKEY being a couple of blocks up Burnside. Here is KGAR/KKAD history from 1959 to 2004 from the pdxradio archive.

KGAR was across Burnside from KISN for a short time in the ’60s. KKEY had an office and later Talk studio on 13th and Stark/Burnside after increasing power in 1968 until after Ralph Weagant died in 1987. There was some discussion so it was probably 1988 before closing the Portland location and moving the studios and offices to the transmitter site in Vancouver ..read more

KKEY was at 13th and Burnside. Yes, I remember that funky building across more-or-less from Powell’s.
Here’s a photo and commentary:

(Wow! Some hours of my youth were spent listening to Jack Hurd. In my parents’ home the Scandinavian Hour was regular listen too.)
Apparently for a time KGAR was across the street from KISN. 1550 was a rebel of station in its time but its 1kw daytime signal had limited coverage ..read more
