Wouxun KG-935G squelch tail problem

The RPT-TONE setting eliminates the tone that your radio sends at the end of a transmission, which eliminates the squelch tail for the radio someone receiving your transmission. It doesn’t prevent you from hearing a squelch tail. That is why you don’t notice a difference on your 935G. I’m not sure what to do about the tail you are hearing ..read more

New to GMRS radios

Well - memory channels are just preset locations you can switch to quickly, without bashing lots of buttons. Remember radios like this can be set up to give (a) the best chance of talking to random strangers you don’t know, who also have GMRS radios or (b) little chance of hearing other random people you don;t want to be disturbed by. This is the clever one where you get the impression of privacy because your radios stay silent until your friends speak. They transmit to you on a specific frequency - you both send and receive on this frequency, but craftily your radio sends a tone (you don’t he ..read more

Baofeng UV-5R - Won't Transmit (same programming)

If you want certainty, then use the VFO mode not memories. enter your 462.7125 on the radios and see if they work. then try a few other ones. I suspect they will work too. This points to the memory contents simply being different. One simple parameter, or lots - who knows. My guess is that if you get the cable and look at a dumo of each radio, differences will be obvious. If you have two radios for chat, then the vast number of memory channels will be dodgy ones anyway, so take your desired frequencies and enter those into a few memories and see what happens. So many things can make them ‘not ..read more

Baofeng UV-5R - Won't Transmit (same programming)

Paul et al, Legalities aside for the moment, I manually entered FRS frequencies into my newly acquired (unlocked) UV 5R… The only station that successfully communicated between sets was channel 7 (462.7125). The rest seemed to impact the other set’s squelch upon PTT but no comms. Any theories as to why? I am awaiting a program cable so have not tried software method as of yet. Ps - apologies on behalf of my country for the bizarre “legal” rant you endured above… Be glad the topic wasn’t scientific in nature… the response would have frightened you even more. I digress… cheers ..read more

Im a tad confused why you went the ham radio route? Not being funny, but some people struggle with the technical knowledge required for even the most basic licence type if they’ve not found out about the hobby and the basic science. Google, your ARRL and many other ham organisations have all the repeater and other basic info. It seems odd you’ve not done any research on ham activity in your area? If its comms for a group of friends, then even if there is a ham repeater that will extend your range, they probably wont take kindly to non-ham usage, and newcomers who arent conventional hams might ..read more

I have been unable to eliminate the squelch tail on my Wouxun KG-935G ht. It’s quite annoying. I’ve tried turning on/off the RPT-TONE setting per Menu item 51 to no avail. I’ve also tried doing a factory reset of settings without success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ..read more

Distance capabilities are affected by several things including topography, antenna type, antenna height, availability of repeaters, and the power output of the radio. There are other factors (like how well-tuned your antenna is), but those are a few of the main factors. Your radios, given the right combination of factors, it perfectly capable of reaching those distances ..read more

Unfortunately, the laws of physics are against you. In the VHF and UHF amateur bands, it is strictly line of sight, so both antennas must be in sight of each other. This means that 1.3 miles is about the best you will ever get, and that is in ideal conditions. As for antennas, it is unlikely you will do much better than the stock antenna. Your only choices for that distance are a repeater in between the two with a much higher antenna, or a fixed base radio with an antenna on a tower. Two handhelds would never do that distance unless both were on two mountain tops within sight of each other. In ..read more
