As the title says, over the last weeks the MW radio mast was demolished and removed from the site. The transmitter plant buildings remain. I know the transmitter was decommissioned for some time already, but the hazard marker lights on the mast were kept working. Does anyone know anything about the removal? Why? Who? When? How? What is the plan for site now ..read more

Can you think of any radio presenters who presented "on air" in RTE radio during any part of the 1970s that are on RTE radio schedules with their own shows in 2024 ? Those presenters who can say I was on RTE nearly 45 - 55 years ago I am including those that moved away from RTE for a period of time I am excluding repeated programmes that feature deceased or retired presenters (such as on Radio 1 extra digital channel) Here is my list of where they are now on RTE radio: Aine Hensey on R Na G John Bowman on Radio 1 Marty Whelan on Lyric Dave Fanning on RTE Gold and 2FM Bank Holidays Ronan Collin ..read more

Very sad news announced by Radio Caroline yesterday. Station stalwart Dave Foster has passed. He was a powerhouse worker behind the scenes for the station, a great DJ and a thoroughly nice guy. He will be missed by his family and a large circle of radio listeners worldwide. Caroline continues, as he would want it to do and he will be remembered. RIP ..read more

With NSR - Dublin Pirate in the 1990s, Still Involved With Irish Radio

by Declan A Walsh

Between 1991 and 1993, there was a south Dublin pirate called NSR. A lot of presenters went through it during that period. It had mixed programming. But who from NSR is still around in Irish radio? Here is what I have come up with. Kevin Branigan (owner/operator), aka John J MacKenzie: CEO of Radio Nova Barry Dunne : 98FM Ralph McGarry - Freedom FM (online and temporary-licensed) Al Gibbs - FM104 Daragh O'Sullivan, aka Stephen Davitt: One of the principals of annual temporary licensed Christmas FM (and online all year round) Any more still around ..read more

Radio Presenters with speech impediments

Is it common? Should a speech impediment prevent you from becoming a broadcaster? Depends on the nature and severity I suppose? Regional dialect/accents play a part in what is deemed acceptable/normal. I can think of one presenter who cannot pronounce his THs. So when he is calling out phone numbers for example it’s pronounced tree and turty tree. Nails on a blackboard to my ears but maybe that’s just me ..read more
