Advice for my first build

Hi all,   Apologies if this is the wrong sub-forum.   Been through multiple posts about what to look for in terms of a setup and kind of narrowed it down to what I think would suit my budget. Looking to upgrade my TV later on in the year when the model im chasing is released so I thought I'd get a head start on a home theater unit.   Will be going into a room that measure roughly 3m(10ft) x 5m (16ft) x 2.8m(9ft). Couch sits along the long side of the room with the TV on the opposite wall. Would ideally like to goto 5.1.2 in the future but will slowly build to this and start with ..read more

Should we get a new receiver?

About 15+ years ago, we purchased a Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi receiver. Presently, we use it for watching TV – it is connected to a computer and a DVD player, both via HDMI; and a TV monitor, again via HDMI. While it basically functions properly, there are some issues when we try to change input sources. For example, after watching a DVD, we have to turn everything off for a few minutes otherwise it does not seem to be aware of the computer input.   Today, I tried following the instructions on page 63 of the manual, but nothing happened when I pushed the Setup button on the remote controll ..read more

Subwoofer to pair with Soundbar

Hi Everyone    I'm new and been sort of going through the rabbit hole of this forum for hours as well as reddit.   I have a Yamaha YAS108 / ats-1080 (Costco version) which I actually really like the sound of. It has a sub out and I was wanting to connect a subwoofer either used or new.   I'm in Melbourne Australia so Dayton subs are not available here    In terms of the subwoofer how much is too much $$ given the basic soundbar setup? Picture of setup attached.   The question is do I go an svs pb-1000 for $900 or is this overkill given the basic tv and soundb ..read more

Help finding JV60 matching centre speaker

I'm looking for a matching centre speaker to go with my JV60 Jaycar kit front speakers. I built cabnets using the transmission line plans curtisity of @Paul Spencer. The drivers are Vifa P17WJ 6.5 Woofers and Vifa D25AG Tweeter. I know Scanspeak make a newer version of the woofers and I have seen the Troels Gravesend Scanspeak centre but it will end up being too expensive with dollar conversion and shipping. Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks Brad.     ..read more

3.2.4 Speaker Setup?

I’m in the process of thinking through a move from 2.2 setup (stereo with subs) that is used for music and movies  to a multi-channel setup. The main goal is to improve dialogue clarity for movies via adding a center channel but, with the addition of an AVR/AVP, I’d also look to simplify room correction and integration of subs via the use of Dirac/DLBC (and possibly Dirac ART).   Our shared room doesn’t allow for surround speakers but it is possible to install ceiling speakers.  I’d always discarded the notion of in-ceiling surround speakers but with Dolby Atmos am re-evaluating ..read more

Recommendations for a retractable 100" screen

Hi all,   Hoping you can help. We're in the early stages of a renovation (demolition on the rear of the house is done, ground work and restumping done, moving into construction phase now). I've got the go-ahead to install a projector in the living room, which has a bay window, which my partner wants to remain usable. The obvious solution is a retractable screen.   Horizontal measurement across the window is a perfect fit for a 100" screen. Throw distance is around 3.5m–4m (I'd need to check the plans again).Haven't bought a projector yet but I'm thinking Epson EH TW-9400. &nbs ..read more

Sub amp suggestions??

Hey guys, got a sub amp issue.   I have 2 Klipsch R112-SW 12" subs which I'm happy with, well up to recently. The plate amps went to amp gods in the sky.  I've never been happy with the idea of plate amps being thumped by all the bass. And the circuit gets warm on standby with no air moving in the cabs. I can put more money into repairing the plate amps or I could just get a sub amp. My HT receiver does pretty good on the other speakers so don't need a multi channel amp. It has 2 sub outs.   Ideally the sub power amp would be 100-300watt stereo 4 ohm. D class would work fine for ..read more

So, I bought a house and it came with lots of...Bose.    From the manuals, I think I have a Lifestyle DVD head unit, and a Personal Music Center II (or is the latter just a remote?).  Physically, I know I have: 1x black subwoofer 1x white subwoofer 2x head units 3x remotes 1x amp 5x single black speakers 4x double white speakers 1x centre white speaker 1x transformer/power supply Enough cables to sink a ship.    I think one set is older (black) and one newer (white). The white was set up and operating when I moved in.    Anyone know what Bose treasures I have ..read more

I have a very challenging space to work with and with my total lack of knowledge on anything audio, I'm looking for any suggestions on best options and also specific speakers with a limited budget.   My thoughts were a 2.1.2 or 2.1.4 setup?   1) Budget: $1500 2) Interests: Movies, Gaming & Music with music and movies primary concern. 3) Existing audio equipment: Denon AVR-X1800H, 2 x Q Acoustics Qi 65C ceiling speakers.  4) Room size is 6m x 6m combined kitchen/living. Front wall with TV, RH side wall plaster & glass, rear wall all glass, LH side open to kitchen. Living ..read more
