Does anyone know if this unit can handle HDMI 2.1? I just upgraded my TV to a Samsung S95D 77" and my Pioneer VSX1131 (with latest firmware) has issues displaying my HTPC (Home Theatre PC) correctly - giving it a maximum available resolution of only 1080p...
You have to switch off the 'Input Signal Plus' on the TV (settings, all settings, connections, external device manager, input signal plus) and then all resolutions become available again. I beleive this changes the HDMI mode from 2.1 to 1.4.
In the S95D manual it says: "If the Input Signal Plus feature is turned off, HDR signals sent fro ..read more

Hi all, after Need to update AVR? I went ahead and did exactly that, with a good deal on a Denon AVR X1800H from Peter Dyson. On a roll, I also replaced the Samsung 49KS8000 with an LG55C3, via another Spring deal from John Lewis, and the front LCR Boston Acoustics sats with Cambridge Audio Minx Min 22’s.
All good. But that “upgradeitis” though. Thinking about those unused extra channels now??♂️
The Denon runs to 7.2 or 5.2.2. Currently I’ve still got the original BA sub and rears so on 5.1. In our house the money, aesthetics, and practicalities all have to work.
I can’t access the ceiling ..read more

Hi all,
I've been looking to upgrade my home theatre sound system. I'm somewhat of a novice in the sound area, so I hope the options below do make sense to you guys. I use my speakers for some music listening, but movie are probably 80% of the time. The room is roughly 6x3x2.6meters.
My current setup is 2 custom made front speakers with Onkyo TX-NR6100 receiver. I'm pretty happy with the 2 speakers, so I've been looking to add the rest of the package to get 5.1 or even 5.1.2 if budget allows. Unfortunately my existing speakers were custom made(not my me ), so unless I disassemble them to ch ..read more

Hi all I'm looking for a bit of advice about sub placement.
Last night we experimented in my son's bedroom with a right mismatch of speakers setting up surround sound to go with his projector. Annoyingly the Disney + app on pc doesn't do 5.1 so we brought his PS4 into the bedroom.
He aims to get the same model of AV receiver he has in the cellar but used from eBay and set it up with monitor audio mass 5.1.
I've suggested putting the sub in the space behind his bed that I'm turning into a bed come sofa, he has suggested putting it next to his wardrobe and under his projector screen.
Which would ..read more

I am setting up a home theatre room and I have some matching speakers for the LCR and a beefy subs for LFE. but don’t have much space for the surround channels. I was looking online and found some reasonably priced second hand satellite packages with a small sub. I was wondering what people thought about wall mounting the satellites but using the speaker terminals on the small sub to handle the 80 to 120hz range for only the surrounds. And in my receiver setting the surrounds as small with a 80hz(same as LCR) crossover to the main subs. I would also place the small sub behind the couch to offs ..read more

I have a Pioneer SC-LX57 Receiver and I’ve just bought a LG OLED, my problem is I can’t get any sound over Audio Return Channel, everything else works perfectly. Sky and Blu-Rays work using HDMI 1 out for video and sound through the Pioneer, and I’ve just purchased a new QED cable with ARC included as I presumed my old 1.3 cables didn’t support this. I can’t seem to get any sound back to the receiver off Netflix, Freesat or Amazon Prime.
The biggest thing that’s baffling me is what setting do I put the Pioneer on to get ARC in to work ..read more

I Have been waiting for movie to appear on 4 K Blu Ray for some time . Once it was announced , I pre-ordered it . As its not getting a UK release I ordered an American copy. It was dispatched on March the 12th and received on the 16th of March .
However when I tried watching it the picture showing massive break up (as though my player could not read it properly) at 1 hour 42 minutes and 2 hours and 2 minutes on the special edition version included on the Disc .
Needless to say its on it's way back as of this morning .
