FWIW I rolled the dice on the Allonis Smart Remote Kickstarter.  It's still pretty rough (learning curve mainly) but I still think it's got a lot of promise: https://allonis.com/products/smartremote/smartremote-intro It's actually more IP based than RF, though it supports the GlobalCache for IR.  I've been using URC my remotes are starting to get a little long in the tooth and almost all my devices support IP control.  The big selling point for me is that the Allonis system is all self hosted and they fu ..read more

Quote from: bmoney on Yesterday at 08:39:24 AM and im not really interested in a control4 since it is installer based thanks! I totally understand, as a DIY guy myself. But it is an incredibly powerful system, which I'm really enjoying. It makes my somewhat complex theater so much easier to operate. You would need to work through a Dealer to get it set up, but afterwards, you can use "Composer Home Edition" which does give DIY guys the ability to customize pretty much al ..read more

I use URC remotes, but unless you're grandfathered into their system, it's 100% installer based now. Not many options out there anymore, that's for sure.  ..read more

Re the email - I assume you need to reset your password, because that's the only reason you would actually need to access the email account.  I've been using Harmony remotes for a long time now and at some time there is going to be a breaking point, and I'm going to be forced to figure out a solution. Not sure what is out there, like you I'm not at all interested in the vendor programmed stuff. I make minor adjustments with Harmony at least a couple of times a year, and more if a new piece of gear is in ..read more

For sure.  I remember just rolling my eyes listening to a Best Buy guy back when they were on commission.  I didn't even bother trying to correct him since it was apparent he didn't know what he was talking about. Good lesson there and highlighted the importance of independent opinions ..read more

Quote from: SRW1000 on Yesterday at 08:01:14 PM Those are interesting examples, David.  Glad to hear that the editor stood behind you on the AVR, that's lends credibly to the publication. One has to wonder if that kind of standard extends to other publications.  For gear reviews I've been leaning more toward user posts and comments than published articles but take both into account before making a decision.  There's also risk in post from unknown sources, but they're usually a go ..read more
