Has anyone ever been to the Mille Miglia? I'm trying to organise a trip out to be there for the start. I'm wondering is the best day to go the day before or is it best to be there on the morning of the start to get the best views ..read more

Hi,
I have a 1997 Camaro, it runs and drives ok, but I want to give it to a decent mechanic to give it a good look over mechanically and fix any issues. Then, I will look to get the body resprayed. Ideally, someone who is into nut and bolt restorations ..read more

I have had no luck finding any outlets in Cork that can handle wire wheel servicing as in tyre changing without damage and balancing etc. Surely there must be guys out there with wire wheels on their classics? Where do you go? I am happy to travel to get this service…….

Hi All
I'm looking into buying a 30+ year old car from Northern Ireland
Just wondering what documentation I need to register it in the ROI
What kind of taxes would I be liable for
It was imported from UK to NI in 2005 ( if that makes a difference)
Thanks

Hi,
Anyone gone through the process of putting a larger engine in their car? I want to put a 2.5 V6 from rusty shell into a donor Alfa 156.
I know I need an engineers report for changing taxbook.
My worry is with insurance, has anyone had issues with a modification of this type ..read more

Hi, Can anyone give me advice on importing a classic car from the UK. Its an Italian make and about 40 years old, worth £6,000. I will go to collect it in the uk and bring it back to Ireland. My question is, do i have to pay an import tax when i arrive at the port in Ireland and do i have to pay VAT in Ireland? If so how much? Secondly, what is the registration process (does it need vrt, nct?)?
Thank You ..read more

Spotted a '70s Karmann Ghia on a US forum that I would love to have. The car is reasonably priced, asking $5,000. The car is located in Georgia. About 250 miles from the major international shipping port of Savannah, Georgia
Can anyone help with this? Are there agents that can arrange pickup from there and dropping to my home in Dublin? Or even just to Dublin port? What sort of money would that cost me including all fees and taxes?
I presume the taxes on the car itself would be 10% import duty of the invoice value, €200 flat fee for classic VRT and 23% VAT over invoice value + shipping cost ..read more

If I register an 83 car in Dublin, does it use the modern format of putting a 12 at the front giving 83-D-12XXXX? I tried a few of them in a reg checker and I was getting positive hits for that series being somewhere at 83-D-120070... however I'm also getting hits for the lower ones like 83-D-8XX, are they older imports?
ZV made sense at four digits, but it's gone a bit mad now ..read more

Hello all,
I moved recently (early February 2024) to Ireland from NI and brought my car with me.
As stated in the revenue i have to make the VRT appoitment within 30 days of arriving to the state. In terms of payment, I read that I have to paid the full amount of VRT unless I have an exemption letter.
I have started the process to obtain the exemption letter from Customs but I will not get an answer before the VRT appoitment. Does it mean i have to pay the full VRT amount?
Any comments will be helpful ..read more
