It has a standalone connectivity plan from Truephone. I initially thought they just suck so I switched to the far more expensive Verizon standalone plan, and it's the same issue. What seems to resolve it is cycling Airplane mode on/off. He has to do this nearly every day and if he forgets I can't reach him or locate him. At this point I'm pretty sure this watch has very crappy modem, but I'm curious if anyone else had this issue. I went on a snorkeling excursion in the Caribbean and lost my Apple Watch somewhere in the middle of the ocean. As soon as I realized, which was after we had come back to land and disembarked the ship, I activated lost mode. I could see the last location of the watch in MyDevices in the water, I assume because my iPhone had cellular signal. I thought all was lost as I flew back to my home country the next day. An update notification appeared saying I should update. I connected to power and started the update and left it alone. Now the screen is just black and I cannot use it anymore. It is running, and my alarms are going off on it and I can stop the alarms by clicking the button or tapping the screen despite it being black but that's all I can use it for now. When I called Apple support they virtually shrugged and said my only option is to take it into the Apple store and pay them to fix it. Trying to decide if I should get an SE or a Series 9. I currently have a Series 3 so I’ve never used the ECG feature before. I use my watch to monitor my heart rate a lot as I have a condition that causes a quick increase in heart rate when I stand up (POTS).
