Whereas Russia in reality has nothing like the economic power or population of the Soviet Union or before it the Russian Empire. The Russian Military in 10 years time will be very interesting to see. Even without taking combat losses into account they must be using up the structural life of their air assets rapidly. And those air assets had shorter fatigue lives than their NATO equivalent to start with. Also, taking a look at the ages of Russia's surface ships, in a few year's time it is hard to ..read more

I don't see there being any amphibious landings in Russia. I'd expect fierce defence of NATO countries bordering Russia, & attacks on Russian forces attacking them, Ukraine & perhaps Georgia, & bases which are supporting attacks on NATO & friendly countries. Oh, & sweeping the seas of Russian warships in general, but not going after Russian SSBNs. They'd be safe in their Arctic bastion. statistics: Posted by pji_two — 48 minutes ago ..read more

I mainly take issue with Type 31 as being classified as "noisy" -- she's a large hull form, which always helps with rafting and isolation, she's a CODAD design which eliminates any noisy GT's or reduction gear. I suspect she's about average as an ASW frigate but if anyone trips over any feedback from the Iver's in service, I'd be fascinated. That's an interesting thought. The perceived security threats to the UK when T31 was conceived were very different to the main one now and it seems to me that we are largely back to ..read more
