I applied for the USNA class of 27 and 28 and will now be applying for the class of 29. I had the opportunity to work for a D1 sports team during my freshman year of college (often working more than 50 hours a week). I tried to do Army ROTC (my university doesn't have NROTC), but the ROTC lab is held on the same days as our games, so I unfortunately couldn't join. You all might be questioning my motives, but if I don't receive an appointment at USNA, I plan to join the military on a... Read more ..read more

Hi everyone. My DS has excellent grades and test scores, goes to a prep school in DC, and is a 3 sport athlete (rugby, football, and wrestling). He is being recruited for rugby by a number of schools including a few Ivies. However, his heart has always been set at going to Navy. I went to USAFA, my wife went to USAFA and my brother went to USMA. So we have always been a service academy family. Last August (2023), he was playing rugby and he blew out his knee. He ruptured his meniscus... Read more ..read more

Hi, just a reminder for all families with soon-to-be-Plebes and NAPSters to search (via Facebook or myUSNA.com) and join your local USNA Parents Club, which is a valuable resource of information, support and camaraderie through your 4 years at USNA and beyond. Watch for an invitation from your local Club if you haven't received one already, as most will have some form of Welcome Aboard event in June to provide valuable information and advice before you head off for I-Day or NAPS (often with... I’ve seen a bunch of posts about what to expect but most are kinda from years ago so I wanted to make a new more current one for anyone who has any questions, including myself!! I’m going there to experience what it is like to be a part of usna and just hoping to have a good time but one major concern i have is my eyesight. I wear night contacts which requires me to wear them and sleep for a decent period of time. I would say about 4-5 hours. Then it takes about 5 minutes for me to take... Read more ..read more

Reapplying for C/O 2029 - Div. 1 athletics question

So unfortunately, I did not receive a nomination for c/o 2028 and received a turn down on 4/16. I will be attending a local university in the Fall, and am hoping to secure a nomination from the NROTC unit as a college programmer. Since I am in such a competitive district/state, my BGO advised that while I should still apply to all sources, it will still be a uphill climb to get a MOC nomination (not because I am lacking as a candidate, it's just due to the sheer numbers of candidates in my... A few questions about financials. I am an incoming plebe and I want to get everything in order before I leave (for the most part): Navy Federal or USAA Roth IRA and 401k: This is more general knowledge than service academies but there are a lot of smart people on this forum. How do IRA work exactly? Should I max it out every year? I am fortunate to have a great 529. Can I use this on my IRA and 401k? Is there anything else that a 529 may be useful for for a MID instead of contributing it... Read more ..read more

Good evening, I was not given an appointment to the class of 2028 and I plan to reapply to the class of 2029. As advised, I plan to attend a university while reapplying. I have narrowed down my choices to Florida State University, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, or Norwich University. I will do NROTC at whichever university I attend, though, FSU's program is through a cross-town affiliate school (Florida A&M). I understand the benefits of attending VT or NU (as they...
