A story from an anonymous person that wanted to tell her story. Why am I telling my story? I feel that it is my duty to share it with you. Here is how it goes. I was posting on my personal Facebook page. I had written a quote from God that I had written on my arm. As I was posting another message popped up that I had not seen before. The message was asking if I wanted to support my community. Something about Dying for Life. I said yes and connected with you I grew up with 3 sisters and my parents in Minnesota. In my childhood, I believed that I was safe. Of course, I had fears like all childr ..read more

Dying to Live Your Life – What does that mean?

When I first started thinking about writing another book, I wanted to capture the essence of all of the things that I had been writing about the last several years. I spent some time walking backwards through all of the blogs, posts, Instagram and Facebook comments. In those moments, I tried to envision my life at those times, and the lives of those that interacted with me, or lived along with my journey. Engaging with the last few years of writing was an emotional experience. It is very different to write while you are living through a rough time than going back and reading it later when thos ..read more

Pivot Left

Life does not always move forward as we had planned. Sometimes you must take a step backwards. Sometimes a turn to the right, or maybe even a hard pivot to the left. Life can change without any notice. With change, comes new adventures, or painful reality. How you see the change is the view you have of the world. This week I had a revelation. I am not quite ready to share this newfound joy. But it will allow me to validate my life, the life I have chosen to live, more than ever before. It also brings a strong sense of peace along with it. This peace in my life, I feel, is well-deserved, and pe ..read more

When looking at your life, do you see great things? Do you see steps forward, progress of goals, and feel a sense of wonder at what great things will be next in your life? Or are you like many, wondering how the dreams that you have could ever become real? How what you want in life could be made into reality, or how to even start to move towards those ideas that you once thought were brilliant, but now wonder if you could make them happen? On my journey to become an author, a journey that I did not know I was taking, I was faced with some difficult decisions in my life. I had to decide if I wa ..read more

Why the long face? (AKA why is my face leaking?)

Full credit to Pixar for recreating the vision of myself in cartoon Dear God what is the problem?? Why do I spend moments, and not just a few moments, but lots and lots of moments with my face leaking? For you strong people that are professional criers – you, my friends, are blessed with the ability to embrace the act and emotions that come with this face leaking process. That important skill is not one that I have learned. For me – crying is like cutting my own hair – I am not good at it and the results are terrible. So what is it? How does one embrace this purge of emotions that truly, shoul ..read more

It is the holiday time of year and everyone is happy and celebrating. Presents and parties abound, and we are all supposed to be joyous, appreciative of what we have and loving this time of year. Some of us are not – not joyous, not happy, not loving this time of year. Some of us can’t find that holiday feeling. Life may be too complicated – breakups, financial strain, work/life relationship struggles – these can all make it hard to find any fun or great in a day. But sometimes you just have to look for it. For me, this time of year is often fun, filled with fast and furious activities both ho ..read more

Alone or Lonely – Is there a difference?
Lisabeth Mackall

Are you alone? Does being alone mean that you are lonely? Does being lonely mean that you are never near others? Being alone and being lonely are very different ideas, although conjecture could state that if you are alone then you must be lonely. Truthfully, it is easy to speculate on someone that spends most of their time with themselves, that they must not be social, they don’t have friends, and that they must be lonely. But it simply is not true most of the time. People that have a strong sense of self, of internal motivation and wellness, are people that can be alone and are not lonely. Th ..read more

Moments

New moments. Old moments. Past moments. Moments flash by us, we don’t even recognize most of them as our brain does not remember like a movie, it remembers events and moments like a snapshot. Within each day our brain takes photo after photo of what is happening around us, but how much do we really notice? How much do we engage with? Stop. Look. Listen. Stop – it seems easy to stop what you are doing, even for a few seconds, to take stock of what is happening around you. Really looking at the person you are talking with, taking a deep breath of the air, smelling the warm smell of your coffee ..read more

My 10 Days of Paying Attention – Day Seven

Practice day for the team! Mariah and I opted to rent bikes last night to keep throughout today, as the park that we need to get to for my practice is 2 miles from our apartment. We can certainly walk, but it is probably easier to bike across town in this heat. We stop for a quick bite at a new cafe, and I am graced with the most decedent cup of hot chocolate that I have ever had. Seriously, I cannot begin to explain the richness and depth that this small white cup offered up to me. It was almost too good to be true, and this is coming from a hot chocolate snob. Yes, yes, I drink hot chocolate ..read more
