A new study published in a peer-reviewed journal by the National Academy of Sciences has found that bottled water can contain 10 to 100 times more bits of plastic than previously estimated.1 The study used a powerful optical imaging technique to analyze nanoplastics in bottled water and found that two standard-sized water bottles had 240,000 plastic particles in them on average. About 90% of the particles in the water were nanoplastics and 10% of them were microplastics.1 Nanoplastics are synthetic polymers that can be toxic to human health, and they are believed to be more toxic than micropla ..read more

Conferences and events are cesspools for single-use plastics. Bins overflowing with plastic waste and disposables are a common sight. The average stadium that hosts 300 events annually uses 5.4 million single-use cups – creating a whopping 63.75 tons of plastic waste. If these were replaced with reusable polypropylene (PP) cups used 300 times and then thrown away, that would generate less than one ton of waste (and no waste if the cups were recycled). If you’re a conference organizer or hosting an event or party, reducing single-use plastic is easy once you know how.

Most water loss happens through urination, but the body also loses fluid through the skin and from respiration, which is known as insensible water loss. Over a full day, about 300-400 milliliters of water are lost from breathing. A large component of that loss happens during sleep, although the amount can depend on whether a person breathes primarily through their mouth or nose.
During sleep, there is no fluid intake to make up for insensible water loss, which is why it is believed that the body’s internal clock, or circadian rhythm, kicks in to manage a bala ..read more
